Poor Ralph came into our Preston clinic after 24 hours of vomiting, diarrhoea, and just not being himself. ๐Ÿค’

Our team discovered he was suffering from Acute Haemorrhagic Diarrhoea Syndrome (AHDS) - a severe, potentially life-threatening condition. He was very unwell on arrival, so we acted fast with fluid therapy, pain relief, and Fresh Frozen Plasma (a blood donation from Pet Blood Bank UK) to stabilise him.

After a few nights in our care, Ralph was back on his paws and able to return home to his loving family. ๐Ÿ’™

Brave boy Hugo recently battled with a conditioned called Immune Mediated Haemolytic Anaemia (IMHA), which is when the body attacks it's own red blood cells.

Hugo came to our Vets Now Manchester Hospital extremely weak and pale. Throughout his stay with us, he needed 4 separate blood transfusions and specialist medication to calm his immune system.

Following 10 days in our hospital receiving round-the-clock care from the team, Hugo was able to go home and was ready to recover surrounded by his loving family โค๏ธ

Sweet girl Ruby recently came in to see us at our Vets Now Manchester Hospital showing concerning signs of lethargy, repeated retching and increased breathing rate.

Following a CT scan, it was revealed there were some abnormalities in Ruby's chest. Our team proceeded with surgical exploration via a sternotomy with the owner's support (a procedure where we carefully open the chest), where a grass seed was discovered lodged deep in her left lung lobe.

Although seeming harmless, grass seeds can migrate through the body and cause serious infections and inflammation when inhaled.

A reminder to us pet owners to be extremely vigilant during grass seed season. Make sure to always check your dog's coat, ears, paws and face after walks. ๐ŸŒฑ

We are so pleased that Ruby is doing well at home following discharge from our hospital โค๏ธ

Beautiful Eli was recently the victim of a dog attack while out on a walk.

The attack left him with serious injuries, including trauma to his right lung that required surgical removal of a portion of it, along with damage to his ribs and surrounding soft tissue on the right side of his chest. Our skilled team in our Manchester Hospital (will tag) performed surgery to repair the damage, but complications post-op meant that an airway leak caused his lung to collapse.

Thankfully, our team acted quickly, placing a special drain to resolve the issue and stabilise Eliโ€™s condition.

Weโ€™re incredibly grateful to our team for the exceptional care they provided. Eli is now safely back home with his family and continuing his recovery. Weโ€™re so proud of you, Eli, sending you all our love. โค๏ธ

Lovely Freddie was taken to his local vet showing signs of vomiting, diarrhoea, and unsteadiness. Unfortunately, his condition deteriorated and he was referred to our team at Vets Now Manchester Hospital for advanced care and investigation.

After thorough testing, including blood work and an ultrasound, our team diagnosed Freddie with Addisonโ€™s disease, a condition where the adrenal glands fail to produce enough vital hormones such as cortisol and aldosterone.

Thanks to swift diagnosis and treatment, Freddie is now back home and doing well, successfully managing his condition. โค๏ธ

With the UK in the middle of a heatwave, keeping our pets cool is a must! Always make sure they have plenty of fresh, clean water (collapsible bowls are perfect for on-the-go ๐Ÿ’ง) and only walk them early in the morning or late in the evening.

Giving people and their pets the care and support they deserve, at the time they need it most

Vets Now was founded in 2001 by Richard Dixon, a veterinary surgeon who understood the pressure of being on-call round the clock while also trying to maintain a good quality of life. His solution was Vets Now, a dedicated out-of-hours emergency and critical care service for pets.

In the following years, Richard and his team helped revolutionise the way emergency veterinary care was provided outside of normal surgery hours. He worked in partnership with local veterinary practices to offer vets and their clients an out-of-hours service. At the heart of this was a team of full-time vets, vet nurses and support staff who only worked at night, over weekends and during public holidays.

In 2019, Richard sold Vets Now to Europeโ€™s leading veterinary care provider, IVC, but the business has not changed and, today, Vets Now provides a trusted service to more than 1400 veterinary practices across the UK โ€” from 58 dedicated out-of-hours clinics and three 24/7 pet emergency hospitals, including Ipswich.

In total, our highly-skilled staff treat around 150,000 small animals every year โ€” and during seasonal holidays, like Christmas and Easter, we answer around five queries an hour from worried pet owners. So whether youโ€™re in Northampton, Moulton or Upton weโ€™re there for you and your pet when you need us most.
