Some interesting information
With Christmas decorations going up by the day, and some already up - it's important to know about flowers which could harm your cats at Christmas time! π
β Lilies - Extremely dangerous, even a small amount of pollen can cause kidney failure. Avoid all lilies entirely.
β Poinsettias - Mildly toxic. Can cause drooling, vomiting, and irritation if chewed. Not usually life-threatening, but best kept out of reach.
β Holly - Berries and leaves can cause stomach upset, drooling, vomiting, and diarrhoea. Sharp leaves can also injure the mouth.
β Mistletoe - Both European and American mistletoe are toxic. Ingestion may lead to vomiting, diarrhoea, low heart rate, or seizures in serious cases.
β Ivy - All parts of the plant can irritate the mouth and stomach, causing drooling, vomiting, or abdominal pain.
β Amaryllis - Bulbs and leaves are toxic. Can cause vomiting, tremors, and changes in blood pressure.
β Christmas Rose (Hellebore) - Contains compounds that can cause salivation, vomiting, and diarrhoea if eaten.
You can also eliminate any accidents by decorating with faux flowers - they're also reusable each year! Just be careful not to use faux flowers with small, chewable parts.
