Case Study time 🔥❤️
This little lad attended with severe carpal hyperextension (very flexible wrists) and hindend weakness, collapsing through the hock and instability in the stifles.
He also had a poor compensation posture with a lot of curvature in the spine.
As he was 5 months old at the start, we decided to give hydrotherapy and conditioning a try before considering splinting the carpus. This was after reading lots of research for pros and cons of splinting, especially a puppy.
Due to the discomfort in his hips, stifles, and lumbar spine, our primary focus was to increase the comfort in these ares and focus on strengthening it up to try and relieve the additional weight bearing through the front. His owner has been working hard with his home rehab plan.
And well, it's only been 4 weeks, and we're seeing some lovely changes in his posture. Much stronger through the hind end, lovely straight spine, and even some lift through the carpi.
Im looking forward to seeing his progress over the next 6 weeks.
What do you guys think?!

The cranial cruciate ligament is key for stifle aka knee joint stability in our four legged friends!🐕

Injury to this region is the most common cause of canine lameness and high risk movements for injury here include:
- Ball throwing.
- Sprinting.
- Jumping.
- Running on slippery surfaces (laminate or tile flooring).
- Stair use.
- Playing with other dogs (pivoting and sudden changes in direction).

Hydrotherapy is key to ensuring the cranial cruciate ligament is functioning at an optimal capacity:
🌊 The waters buoyancy reduces stress onto the joint to improve joint range of motion.
🌊 The resistance of the water provides strengthening abilities to the muscles that support the joint.

🐶 When we discuss optimising your dogs function and providing the best quality of life we are mainly referring to these three key elements:

💧 Improved joint mobility.
💧Increasing muscle strength.
💧Enhanced cardiovascular fitness and systems.

These three areas working together enable your dog to have the healthiest musculoskeletal system to enjoy their day to day activities. The good news… hydrotherapy offers all three of these outcomes together! 💦

Vet: “NO LONGER NEEDS SURGERY.” 🧑‍⚕️

👏👏👏

What an amazing result for this little lady!

Lyra suffers with a condition called luxating patella. When she started, she was a grade 4 (most severe), was 4kg heavier, perhaps managed a monthly short walk and wasn’t engaging in any play.

Lyra is now almost 4kg lighter and with regular physio-hydro with our specialist vet physios, her vet has now declared her SEVERE (REQUIRES SURGERY) luxating patella to MILD, GRADE 1.

We are delighted to see her bouncing around again, no longer requiring surgery, initiating play and enjoying almost daily walks!

Well done Lyra, fab result 🫶🏼

Saga’s Success Story!! 🥳

This week we discharged Saga after her fantastic progress!

She came to us for intermittent lameness associated with chest and shoulder pain. We adapted her walking apparatus, customised her treatment plan and reviewed Saga’s home exercises for speedy and effective progress… and it paid off! 💪

Saga spent all day at DogFest last weekend with absolutely no stiffness!!

We will miss her super bouncy nature and the millions of kisses. 😘

Best of luck with your vet review Saga!! 🤞🏼
