Essex Bird Centre will be attending and supporting the Bishops Stortford Bird Sale on Sunday 17th May!

If you need anything specific like sacks of seed, cages etc— just give us a call and we’ll make sure it’s loaded onto the van for you, but don't leave it to late.....

It has a great kitchen with good food (bacon from the butchers) and light refreshments, plus ample parking and a lovely playground for the kids. 👍

🎙 We’re Live on BBC Essex Tomorrow Morning

Essex Bird Centre will be speaking live on BBC Essex tomorrow at 7:35am, where Oliver Crowther will be discussing important current issues affecting our garden birds.

🦜 Finch Trichomonosis
We’ll be highlighting concerns around trichomonosis — a disease caused by a protozoan parasite that affects a bird’s ability to swallow food and water. Finches are particularly vulnerable, and the disease has contributed to significant declines in UK Greenfinch and Chaffinch populations.

We are supporting new research funded by Natural England and the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, working alongside the British Trust for Ornithology and the Institute of Zoology to better understand how this disease spreads in gardens.

Bird tables and certain related products, as damp food on flat surfaces may increase the risk of disease transmission. Bird welfare is always our number one priority.

👉 Please remember to keep feeders clean and dry.

🐦 Bird Exhibitions & Sales
We’ll also hopefully be raising awareness of current concerns within the bird-keeping and breeding community regarding exhibitions and showing of birds. The British Bird Council and other organisations are currently in discussions with Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (DEFRA), NCA, IOA, Parrot Society, ZFS and Canary Clubs, Avicultural Society’s about safeguarding bird health at gatherings and events.
