Keeping Dogs Safe During the Heatwave
With temperatures set to rise over the coming days, we wanted to reassure everyone that the safety & wellbeing of the dogs in our care will always come first.
Just like people, every dog handles the heat differently. There is no one size fits all approach. Factors such as breed, age, fitness levels, underlying health conditions, coat type & even individual tolerance can all affect how well a dog copes with warmer weather.
While some dogs may be happy to potter around in the sunshine, others can struggle very quickly. That is why we monitor every dog individually & adjust our plans accordingly.
During periods of hot weather, we may shorten walks, choose shadier locations, increase rest breaks & focus more on enrichment rather than exercise. We always carry fresh water & have cooling equipment available to help keep everyone comfortable.
Heatstroke can develop much faster than many people realise, which is why we would always rather be cautious than take unnecessary risks.
Our priority is not how far a dog walks or how much exercise they get. Our priority is making sure every dog returns home safe, happy & healthy.
