This morning, we came together to build a dead hedge using the Christmas trees kindly donated by our local community!

Not only does this provide much-needed protection for our bee hives against strong winds, but it also creates a fantastic habitat for wildlife—offering shelter to birds, insects, and small mammals.

A huge thank you to everyone who donated their tree and to those who came along and got stuck in—we couldn’t have done it without you!

A huge thank you to everyone who kindly donated their used Christmas trees to Lyme and Wood Country Park!

We're using these trees to repair the dead hedge around the bee hives, which acts as a windbreak. Dead hedges are great for wildlife—they provide shelter for insects, birds, and small mammals.

We're also using the trees as mulch to help improve some of the park’s paths. The mulch is a natural way to make the paths more accessible.

If you'd like to get involved, we'll be meeting on Saturday, 8th February, at 10:15am in the Vista Road car park and finishing around 12:30pm. Drinks and biscuits will be provided, so come along for a rewarding morning outdoors!

WANTED: USED CHRISTMAS TREES AT LYME & WOOD COUNTRY PARK🎄

If you’re looking for a way to recycle your tree, we’ve set up a drop-off point at the car park off Vista Road. We’ll gladly accept trees with or without roots (no plastic trees please). All donations will be recycled to benefit the park and its wildlife.

Drop offs welcome from today up until Thursday 9th January. Please place your unwanted tree into the wooden crates provided in the car park.

Today, we carried out a litter pick along the path off Lyme Street. Unfortunately, we came across some truly concerning items, including sharp glass, nails, and used baby nappies.

We’ve also received multiple reports of pets being injured by litter along this path, which is deeply upsetting.

Please, let’s work together to protect our pets and the environment. Talk to your kids, friends, and family about the dangers of littering and the harm it causes to our wildlife, pets, and community.

If you see anything that could be dangerous (e.g. broken glass) on the park, please send a message to this page and one of our volunteers will try and sort it as soon as possible.

Yesterday, the Friends of Lyme & Wood had the pleasure of assisting the the Rotary with their Santa Sleigh. We worked alongside the amazing VIADUCT VIOLETS WOMEN'S INSTITUTE (NEWTON-LE-WILLOWS), collecting donations and spreading Christmas cheer throughout the community. A big thank you to the Rotary for organising such a fantastic initiative and their ongoing support for Lyme and Wood Country Park 🎄🥰

We had the pleasure of hosting an eco lino printing workshop at Lyme and Wood Country Park, led by The Art of Kelza Pilkington!

It was incredible to see so many creative minds come together, using sustainable art practices to craft beautiful designs inspired by nature. The event was filled with, learning, lots of rain and a shared passion for protecting our planet.

A big thank you to Green Town St Helens for organising and to everyone who participated. Your enthusiasm and creativity made the day truly special 💚
