Animals in Distress - Torbay & Westcountry Animals in Distress is a local animal welfare charity that takes in, cares for and rehomes hundreds of cats, dogs, rabbits and guinea pigs every year.

The Animal in Distress Rescue Centre is based at Ipplepen, near Newton Abbot, Devon. Animals come to the Rescue Centre for a variety of reasons, including bereavement, illness, breakdown of relationships, financial hardship, straying, cruelty, neglect or abandonment. When the lives of South Devon’s pets fall apart, Animals in Distress is here to pick up the pieces. We aim to never turn away an

animal in distress, and it is our policy to give them the best possible care while they are waiting to be rehomed. Every effort is made to ensure that prospective owners find the right pet for them. Home checks are carried out, and all animals are checked by our veterinary surgeon. All cats and dogs are microchipped, vaccinated and neutered before rehoming. Without the help of our generous supporters in the local community and beyond, we simply wouldn’t be able to provide this vital service. Thank you so much for your support.

Miss Pixie is the most wonderful cat! 😻
She's a very friendly and gentle girl who absolutely loves to be around people all the time, preferably sitting on their laps! She has a wonderful fun side and loves to spend time playing in the garden on a nice day. She really is the best girl 🥰

Tess pulled this incredible face today when she heard it was Tongue Out Tuesday😹

Has anyone lost this elderly female tabby cat in or around Abbotskerswell? She has been brought into us as a stray over the weekend.
The microchip details show that she came from our rescue centre as a kitten in 2007 but the contact details on the chip and on our system are now out of date. We are following other leads to find the owner.
In the meantime if anyone has any info, or if this is your cat, please get in touch. Thank you.

Cat-friendly plants needed 🐱☀️🌺🌿
All of our cats have been really enjoying their time out in the cat garden during the recent beautiful weather (though not so much today!☂️)
Some of the borders are looking a bit bare now and we wondered if anyone has any cat-friendly plants spare from their own gardens, which they would be happy to donate?
We are looking for plants such as
Lemon Balm (Melissa)
Catmint (Nepeta)
Mint (Mentha)
Rosemary, Sage (Salvia)
Thyme (Thymus)
Valerian (Valeriana -not Centranthus)
- or any other non-toxic plants.
If anyone could spare a couple of plants we would be so grateful for your support. Thank you so much 🙏🌷

Twiggy came in as a stray, starving and dehydrated. She had a heavy flea infestation and flea allergy, so had lost a lot of fur. She's currently wearing a cone to stop her from licking at her skin, and her fur has started to grow back.
Twiggy is now putting on weight and slowly recovering.
Twiggy is such a sweet girl and loves everyone. We'll keep you updated on her progress 💕

Happy Easter, from everyone at Animals in Distress 🥚🌱

Great news on Johnnie & Domino, who have continued to put on weight and are both now nearly 1kg each - they are now approaching the healthy weight they should be for their size 🐹🐹.
