Welcome to Whiskers Vets, we are proud to be one of the few independent veterinary practices in Newton Abbot, Devon.

Whiskers Vets is open 6 days a week and has everything you'd expect from a modern veterinary practice, including full medical and surgical facilities as well as two consulting rooms and an easy-access waiting room for customers and their pets and plenty of free parking. Our experienced team of veterinary surgeons and nurses are dedicated to providing you with the very best care for your pets.

This beautiful boy is Nando (whether or not he's cheeky is yet to be determined...) 🤣

We had the absolute pleasure of meeting this little fella for a health check and initial vaccinations. He did a great job and had a cuddle with pretty much the entire team 😆

Warm weather means outdoor adventures! ☀️

If your plan involves any activities near water, we’re here to help you ensure fun and safety with some tips.

✔️ Do not assume your pet knows how to swim. Contrary to popular belief, not all dogs are natural swimmers, so make sure they’re always within reach.

✔️ Choose safe water spots. Avoid stagnant lakes, ponds or any areas that look questionable, as signs of blue-green algae contamination may not always be obvious.

✔️ Watch for hidden dangers. Strong currents may not be visually perceptible, so stick to supervised areas that are known to be safe.

✨🤩 Gorgeous Maggie back with us 😍💕

You may remember this beautiful soul from a little while back when she was featured as our pet superstar! 🌟

All has been well since then and she's been back to her delightful self 😊

She has however had a liiittle accident with her foot in the last week or so, so we're just doing a bit of investigating and keeping an eye on it 👀

Either way, it's been a delight to see her and her family and we're sure she'll be right as rain again soon 💖

🫅🤩 Getting the Prince treatment (rightfully so!)👑✨

This gorgeous guy is Albert, who came to see us this week for a dental procedure 😁

Now we know nobody likes the dentist, least of all our furry friends, so we made sure to give Albert plenty of love, affection and reassurance throughout the day 🥰

As you can see, he very much approved! And he was still happy to come and see us today for his post op check, even despite his hefty op last time, so we must have done something right 💁‍♀️🌟

He's such a good boy and did a wonderful job! Well done, Albert 🥳

☀️🐶 Hot Weather Warning – Keep Your Dogs Safe! 🐾🔥

With the summer sun shining, it’s the perfect time to enjoy the outdoors—but hot weather can be dangerous for our dogs. 🌡️

Heatstroke in dogs can develop quickly and can be life-threatening. Unlike us, dogs can’t sweat to cool down. They rely on panting, which isn’t always enough—especially in high temperatures.

🚨 Watch for signs of heatstroke:
• Excessive panting or drooling
• Lethargy or weakness
• Vomiting or diarrhoea
• Collapse or confusion
• Bright red or pale gums

🐕💦 Top tips to keep your dog cool and safe:
• Walk early morning or late evening when it’s cooler
• Always bring water on walks
• NEVER leave dogs in cars—not even for a minute
• Provide shade and cool areas at home
• Use cooling mats, damp towels, or paddling pools to help them chill out
• Be extra cautious with flat-faced breeds, older dogs, and puppies—they’re more at risk

If you think your dog is overheating, call us immediately—it’s an emergency.
