Devon Horse and Pony Sanctuary with Brantome Police Horses

Devon Horse and Pony Sanctuary with Brantome Police Horses Welcome to the Devon Horse and Pony Sanctuary with Brantome Police Horses, page. Many of these would have nowhere else to go.

DHAPS is situated on Dartmoor and has been rescuing and caring for horses, ponies and donkeys since 1976 and taking in retired Police Horses since 1993. We are small charity organisation that helps to rehabilitate, horses, ponies and donkeys since 1976. We also offer a retirement home to Police Horses that have retired through injury or illness and cannot be ridden. We have many residents that are

with us for life and they are all very much loved and cared for but occasionally we have ponies that we find good loving homes for. We offer visits to small groups of people who would like to learn and benefit from meeting these amazing creatures. Please contact us for more information through Facebook or by email. Help with Hay!!

2026 has started off pretty awful with an amount of rain that we could not have predicted so keeping all of our animals happy with tons of hay is taking its toll!
We have an amazing farmer that supplies our hay and he is very generous with his invoice but even so, our Hay bill is going to shoot up and we need help to keep our merry gang of equines in the lifestyle they are accustomed to and we need enough to see us through until the grass is good again.

If you feel that you can donate £5 for a small hbale of hay then please visit our donate page on our website and let us know so that we can say a big thank

Year of the Fire Horse 🐎

The Chinese New Year is here and 2026 is the year of the Horse and what a beautiful symbol this is and everything it means.

Here are some of the meanings that are relevant to us at the Sanctuary:

Strength and Endurance, moving forward even when the road is hard

The Fire Horse year is about trusting motion, not perfection.

2026 is not going to be perfect, it never is and some of our crazy ideas may never come to life but we will keep trying and moving forward because these animals mean the world to us and we want to do the best by them ❤️

Last week we had an emergency resident turn up. Through no fault of her own or her family she needed a place to go. Unfortunately horrible circumstances meant that Littles no longer had a home. Littles is 29 and has issues with her legs but she has a beautiful nature and we are very happy to have her join our merry gang at the Sanctuary. We haven’t added music to this reel because we wanted you to hear the excitement from Harriet and Edward plus her tiny hooves ❤️❤️ National Equine Welfare Council Dartmoor National Park

This week is Mental Health week and we have always believed that horses have the most amazing way of making anyone feel just a touch better.
The unique smell of a horse and the sense of calm they bring can sometimes just be enough to take the edge off a bad day. Mental Health takes all shapes and forms and no two people have the same feelings but if a few moments with an Equine can bring a moment of mental peace then we hope that we can provide that.
Although we don’t open to the public we offer personal tours to meet our animals and this has been so beneficial for so many that need that moment of peace.
