Today’s fear-friday tip is for the humans, as we know how awkward it can feel advocating for your pooch, especially when they are nervous or reactive. So we thought we’d share some of our tips on ways you can ask for space while out on your walk!
- Use clear signals: A bright “Do Not Pet” lead slip, bandana, or vest can politely communicate your dog’s needs before anyone gets too close.
- Practice what to say: A simple, calm line like “She’s nervous, please give us space” can be ready to use in the moment.
- Choose a safe space: If you see an oncoming dog or person, step off the path early to give yourself some space so your dog doesn’t feel trapped.
- Stay calm: staying calm and confident can help your dog feel more secure.
We know speaking up for your dog may feel uncomfortable and rude, but we can assure you it’s not; it’s responsible and kind for your dog. By protecting their comfort zone, you’re helping them feel safe and understood. 💛🐾
