"That morning has stayed with us. It has changed our lives forever."

For Hannah and her family, the impact of fireworks goes far beyond a single night.

King, Hannah's foal was frightened by fireworks that were set off too close to him. Tragically, he ran to his paddock and died after injuring himself on farm machinery. Hannah's children saw the devastating aftermath.

Reflecting on what happened, Hannah said:

"Fireworks may last only a few minutes, but their consequences can be devastating and lifelong for horses, other animals and the people who care for them."

"We know that fireworks cannot simply be removed from society overnight, but we believe there is a real need for stronger legislation, greater consideration for animal welfare and a more responsible approach to when, where and how fireworks are used."

Today, Hannah is sharing King's story to help raise awareness and support change.

"We cannot allow King's death to be just another tragic story. We want to turn our loss into something that can make a difference, raise awareness of the dangers horses face and help drive meaningful change. If sharing King's story helps prevent even one other family from suffering a similar loss, then we will have given his life a lasting legacy."

Every year, horses, owners and yards are affected by fireworks. By planning ahead, communicating locally and considering animal welfare, we can all play a part in reducing the risks.

Fab few days away training with the THE SOCIETY OF MASTER SADDLERS (U.K.) LIMITED 🐴📚

My brain has taken on SO much information over the last few days and is feeling a little fried! 🤯😂

I’ve been lucky enough to learn from some of the best in the country, ask all my questions about difficult fits, saddle slip, tree shapes and sizes, and get my head around things I’ve been wanting to understand better.

There’s so much that goes into saddle fitting, and the more I learn, the more questions I have! Really grateful to everyone who shared their knowledge and experience.

Lots to take home as I continue my journey as a trainee saddle fitter… but first, a little time to let my brain catch up! 😂

I won’t be offering a travelling fitting service, but I’m planning to build up some saddle stock and may open my books for fittings at Barnwell in 2027, at a discounted rate while I’m still training.

I’m already a qualified bit and bridle fitter, so if you’d be interested in the full tack MOT at Barnwell, let me know! 🥳

Let's hope this is a massive step forward for welfare in Egypt ❤️
