Our podcast is now available for everyone to access!

We will be sharing our back catalogue one the next couple of month's along with new episodes.

To launch the new open access , Dr Russell Chandler was delighted to interview Clinical Advisory panel member Dr Mike Farrell in this 2 part episode.

This podcast is one that you really should not miss. Mike Farrell needs little introduction. He is a Specialist in Veterinary Surgery who is currently making a huge positive impact on our understanding of osteoarthritis and its management.

Using a solid evidence base, and some of his favourite analogies, Mike distils down his vast knowledge into readily accessible chunks.

In this first part of the conversation, Russell invites Mike to talk about canine genetics and evolution, and how these influence the risk of osteoarthritis development. Mike delves deep into the heritability of canine joint diseases and how conformation influences the risk. They also discuss hip dysplasia, elbow dysplasia and the health schemes which have been developed to reduce the incidence of these conditions.

These are the kind of STEM CELLS that we use to treat dogs for OSTEOARTHRITIS. Thanks to Dr Ana Ivanovska for the picture. This is a testimonial from an owner whose dog was treated with stem cells at ALPHAVET REFERRALS:

Re: Review of Stem Cell Treatment; Mopsi

When I last brought my dog in to see Russell Chandler, I agreed to send a review to demonstrate how pleased I was with our dog's treatment and its continued outcome.

Our Labrador was diagnosed with arthritis when she was approximately 4, and by the age of 6 was on pain relief medication. Despite physiotherapy and hydrotherapy sessions she was experiencing regular flare-ups to a point where we were already having “quality of life” discussions about her future. Our physio and vet referred her for possible stem cell treatment at Alphavets, which after assessment was carried out approximately two and a half years ago. Since then she has been active and mobile, experiencing no flare ups of her condition. We have followed the excellent dietary advice given to control her weight, and she had monthly hydrotherapy and 3-monthly physio sessions to monitor her condition. Her physiotherapist states that her mobility is better now than when she was first seen over 4 years ago. If when she was first seen by Mr. Chandler at Alphavets we had been told that she would remain active, happy and pain free for this length of time, we would have found this difficult to believe. At the time of writing, she remains more active than most 9 year old Labradors, having three daily walks, and only shows the normal signs of slowing down due to age. We are delighted with the treatment, and would unreservedly recommend this to anyone whose much loved pet may benefit from it.
