With the summer holidays in place we often have situations with staff and child care that aren’t there in term time

Everyone knows I’m a family centred person and will quite often take my grandchildren or the children I “nanny for” put on visits and walks

Dogs and pets in general have much to gain from exposure to children and visa versa
It’s integral to great socialisation
That said the care wellbeing and safety of both children and animals has to be carefully considered

There are some dogs that just don’t react well to small unpredictable little beings and some children don’t respond well when a dog jumps up to say hello

The needs and views of each customer are important to us and we would respect any owner not wishing children to visit their pet with us

With that in mind I have written a very clear policy for my staff team around bringing children to work - it’s not a given thing but something that needs very careful consideration in each and every day

We had FOUR new fur friends join Bella’s buddies today !
Rocky and Reggie enjoyed three garden visit with Mark whilst Millie had a super walk with Gill along the canal path and the gorgeous puppy Bonnie got cuddled and enrichment games with Gill during her home welfare check

All four were absolutely fabulous !!

We currently have spaces across the week ready for September

A family day out should never come at the expense of an animal’s welfare. 🐰

Many farm parks offer rabbit handling experiences, but repeated petting and being picked up can be stressful and frightening for rabbits. As prey animals, what looks calm to us is likely to be a fear response from them.

This summer, choose to support venues that put animal welfare first. Look for farm parks that provide rabbits with appropriate housing, companionship, enrichment, space to express natural behaviours, and the chance to be observed rather than handled for entertainment.

Before you visit, ask questions. How are the rabbits housed? Are they part of handling sessions? Is welfare prioritised over visitor interaction?

Fun for us shouldn't be frightening for them. 🧡

So far we’ve done really well and not cancelled any visits but it’s tough out there !

What with the weather and the amount of under 18s and other offering services at ridiculously low prices because their only doing it for pocket money - no insurance no dons no canine behaviour training, tax to pay, no companies house formation fees,
Etc etc and I won’t even get started on paye !!!

Worth a share…………

🐶USE US. DON’T LOSE US.🐶

One thing we’d love more pet owners to understand during a heatwave is this.

When we cancel because of extreme temperatures, we’re not having a day off.

We’re losing income.

Most professional pet carers are self-employed. We don’t receive holiday pay, sick pay or a guaranteed salary at the end of the month. If we don’t work, we don’t get paid.

Every cancelled walk, training session or visit has a financial impact.

And this isn’t just one hot afternoon.

Many of us are now dealing with repeated heatwaves and some of the hottest, longest periods of extreme heat we’ve experienced in our working lives. Week after week, bookings are cancelled, diaries are rearranged and income falls, while our mortgages, rent, insurance, vehicle costs and business bills remain exactly the same.

Despite that, we’ll continue to make the same decision every time.

Because our first responsibility is the welfare of the animals in our care.

A postponed walk can be rearranged.

Heatstroke doesn’t always give your dog a second chance.

So, if your usual service isn’t safe, please don’t assume we can’t help.

Instead of cancelling altogether, ask whether your booking can be adapted.

That might mean:
• A home welfare visit
• Toilet breaks
• Feeding and companionship
• Garden enrichment and play
• Medication administration
• An early morning or late evening walk where conditions are safe

You’ll still receive professional care.

Your pet stays safe.

And you’ll be helping a local small business survive another week of extreme weather.

Use us. Don’t lose us.

The service may look different for a few days, but our commitment to your pet never changes.

Thank you to every client who understands that responsible pet care sometimes means changing the plan, not abandoning it.
