I used to be a sun worshiper until I started working with dogs...
Guys, I don't want to be lazy, it's not that I want to be sunbathing, I would love nothing more than to be able to carry on my walks/sessions as normal in these types of heat...
Sun stroke is a killer - I am NOT risking anyone's dog's life for money...
If I can rearrange walks/sessions to cooler times of the day, I most certainly will.
I'm here for the dogs and what's in their best interest 🫶
Things to consider when taking your dogs out in heat:
*Age - Pups bodies are not efficient enough to regulate their temps. Senior dogs are close to the same as pups.
*Breed - Flat faced dogs already have a disadvantage with their breathing, so adding heat and moisture to that, is most definitely a dangerous combination.
*Colour - White dogs (those with pink skin) are more prone to skin cancer. Their bodies lack melanocyte cells which are used to produce adequate levels of melanin that protects the skin. Black dogs, absorb the heat, meaning they can over heat quickly.
*Weight - Obese dogs can over heat quickly.
*Health.
I have seen what heat stroke can do and how quickly it can develop.
It's not nice.
It's scary.
Stay safe 🫶
