☀️ Keeping Your Aquarium Cool During the Heat ☀️

🐟 Increase aeration and surface movement – warm water holds less oxygen, so add an air stone if possible.

🐟 Use a fan across the water surface – this can significantly reduce water temperature through evaporation.

🐟 Turn aquarium lights off or reduce lighting hours to minimise heat.

🐟 Keep curtains closed and avoid direct sunlight on the aquarium.

🐟 In an emergency, float a bottle of frozen water in the tank, but avoid sudden temperature changes.

Take extra care with axolotls and coldwater fish, as they are particularly sensitive to high temperatures. Stay cool! ☀️💧🐠

❌ Adding ice cubes directly to the aquarium
❌ Large cold water changes
❌ Rapid temperature swings
❌ Turning filters off

☀️ Keeping Your Dogs Safe in the Hot Weather ☀️

With temperatures rising here in Newport, please take extra care of your dogs.

🐾 Walk dogs early in the morning or later in the evening.
🐾 Check pavements before walking – if it's too hot for your hand, it's too hot for their paws.
🐾 Provide plenty of fresh water and shade.
🐾 Never leave a dog in a parked car, even for a few minutes.

Signs of heat stroke include excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, vomiting and difficulty breathing. If you suspect heat stroke, move your dog to a cool area and contact your vet immediately.

Stay safe and enjoy the sunshine responsibly. ☀️🐶
