I’m sat here trying to drink a cup of tea while being stared at by two dogs like I personally ruined their lives by not sharing my biscuit.

One thing I often tell owners is this:

You don’t need to become a perfect trainer. You just need a better understanding of what your dog is struggling with.

If your relationship feels more strained since struggling with your Cockapoo's behaviour, you’re definitely not the only one.

Reactive dogs can put a huge amount of pressure on a household because stress changes how people communicate.

You become shorter with each other.
More irritated.
More defensive.
More exhausted.

One person thinks the other is being too soft.
The other thinks they’re being too harsh.

Then before long, conversations that started about barking or reactivity turn into completely different arguments altogether.

I’ve seen couples stop going places together because walks became too stressful.
I’ve seen people avoid having visitors round.
I’ve seen owners quietly resent each other because one person feels like they’re carrying more of the stress.

Living with a reactive dog affects far more than just the dog.

Drop a ❤️ if this feels familiar for you or somebody you know.

Just a little heads up for anyone thinking about puppy support 👀

The introductory price for my Online 1:1 puppy package will be ending on 1st June.

Any packages booked before then will still be honoured at the current £425 price, even if your puppy hasn’t arrived home yet.

From 1st June, the package will move to £497.

A lot of people like getting support lined up before the puppy comes home so they feel more prepared and confident instead of trying to figure everything out once the biting, sleep deprivation and little landshark phase begins 😅

If you’ve been thinking about getting help with:
• toilet training
• biting
• sleep
• calmness
• confidence
• routines
• early behaviour foundations

Send me a message to book before 1st June and I’ll make sure you keep the current price. Payment plans are available too.

If you’re exhausted, fed up and thinking “I can’t keep living like this with my dog”, message me about one of the June spaces before they’re gone.

I think one of the hardest things for struggling dog owners is feeling like they’ve somehow already messed their dog up.

Like they should’ve spotted things sooner.
Handled things differently.
Done better somehow.

But dogs aren’t sat there holding grudges about the past.

What matters most is what happens next.

And I’ve seen so many dogs and owners go from stressed, overwhelmed and miserable together… to finally understanding each other properly and actually enjoying life again.

If you’re currently stuck in that place with your dog, please don’t convince yourself it’s “too late” for things to improve.

A lot of Cockapoo guardians joke that they can’t even go to the toilet alone 😅

Cockapoos are often very people-focused dogs. They like being involved, knowing where you are and following their humans from room to room.

But there’s a difference between attachment and dependence.

A dog following you because they like being near you is one thing.

A dog becoming distressed the second you leave the room, constantly watching your movements, unable to settle alone or panicking when separated is something very different.

That’s when we start looking at confidence, coping skills and whether the dog actually feels safe without needing you there every second.

A lot of dependent dogs accidentally get reinforced because the behaviour looks loving or funny at first. Velcro dogs are often described as “sweet”, “loyal” or “just attached to me”.

But living in a state where you can’t properly relax unless somebody is beside you isn’t actually very restful for the dog.

If your Cockapoo struggles to settle alone or seems unable to switch off unless they’re attached to you, this is something I work through a lot in my one to one support.

I know the paddling pool is meant for the dogs but I’m honestly not ruling out getting in it myself at this point 😅 Who's with me?

If your Cockapoo is struggling to settle in this heat, don’t forget that chewing can be incredibly regulating for dogs.

A lot of guardians think of chews purely as “keeping them busy”, but chewing can genuinely help dogs decompress and unwind.

Things like:
• natural chews
• stuffed frozen kongs
• frozen carrots
• frozen lickimats
• safe shredding activities

can all help dogs settle more successfully indoors when walks need to be shorter.

And, for some Cockapoos, learning how to relax is every bit as important as exercise but even more so in extreme temperatures.
