A rare case of triplet pregnancies seen in a 15yo barren mare sent to us here at Capel Farm. Delighted to say she took in foal first time to Shadwell stallion MOSTAHDAF after previously struggling to get her in foal 💪 However, having 3 pregnancies always complicates things! This only occurs in ~0.7% of breedings and only 1 in 300,000 of these will result in a foaling (usually with non-viable foals 😔). Mares are not designed to carry multiple foals and sadly, several twin/triplet foalings end up with bad outcomes for both the mare and foals. Therefore in order to maximise the safety of the mare and increase the chance of a live foal, we reduce/‘squeeze’ pregnancies at day 14-16 to allow for only one pregnancy to develop. There is always a risk during this reduction that the remaining pregnancy could be compromised in the process (especially when reducing 2 surplus pregnancies in the case of a triplet!) but the risk of this massively outweighs the risk of a mare carrying multiple pregnancies. Thankfully we were able to successfully reduce 2 pregnancies in this case and the remaining pregnancy was scanned with a strong heartbeat at 30 days of age last week. 💪 🐎 Baileys Horse Feeds Shadwell Stud European Bloodstock News

Our first stud season at Capel Farm is officially over ✅

It’s been full on from the start with replacing a barn roof, installing new lighting, foaling cameras and CCTV, putting over 200m of new foaling paddocks in, a new walker, mare stocks and indoor and outdoor all weather turnout pens. You could say the mares, foals and youngstock have been the easiest bit! But we are delighted and humbled to have been so well supported in our first 6 months and we are incredibly grateful to all our clients who have entrusted us with their horses so far. We will continue to steadily improve and expand our facilities to ensure we provide the best possible care for our clients but for now…bring on a (slightly) more peaceful summer! ☀️ 🐎 🥂 Baileys Horse Feeds Ryan Arnel DipWcf

Did you know we take spellers and youngstock too? Here at Capel Farm we have both large group turnout paddocks and some new smaller paddocks for horses needing individual turnout or restricted exercise post-injury. We also have a walker and individual indoor and outdoor turnout pens on all-weather surfaces too 🐎

Having 2 vets on site for any rehabilitation monitoring, imaging etc is also pretty handy!
Pictured below some lovely 2yos and our resident yearlings living their best lives before sales prep in a few months time ☀️
