Earlier this year I had the great pleasure of meeting a new client, Clare, and her charming canine friend, Oliver Plum.

Clare has very kindly sent me these wonderful words, which I greatly appreciate:

“Anne, thank you so much for your wonderful portrait of Oliver Plum; we are both beyond thrilled with it! You have captured him so perfectly. Thank you for taking the time to really uncover his personality, which comes through clearly. I thought how professional you were in taking such pains to get good reference shots of Oliver in the garden (when he was initially quite unco-operative!). You were extremely kind and patient with him, and I believe the time that you spent with him reflects in the finished painting. Can’t wait to hang it — I am sure it will be much admired! My latest commission was a compliment in itself - the family of a recent portrait subject, Arthur, were so pleased with his portrait that they asked me to paint Molly for them too.

It was a great pleasure meeting them, working with them to ensure both portraits were just as they wished, and then to receive these beautiful words from them:

“Following Arthur’s portrait it was only fair to commission Anne to paint our Molly Mo’, who is now in her senior years and a slightly reluctant and unwilling model. Anne’s professionalism and friendly nature persuaded Molly to play ball in front of the camera and we couldn’t be happier with her portrait, which now sits alongside Arthur’s. It’s been a pleasure and a therapy to work with Anne over the past few months and we would strongly recommend her service. Her skills ensure your loved ones can be remembered always. Remembering the absolute superstar who graced the earth for a few years, Sire De Grugy. Today would have been his birthday. Who says June foals can't achieve anything on the racecourse?

Much loved by racing crowds and his owners, but most deeply by his best friend, Jamie Moore, who rode him in practically all his UK races, including victory in five Grade 1s. He spent a happy retirement with Jamie and his family.

I was so privileged to know Sire a little. He had such presence, such gentleness - he knew he was good but he'd never show off about it. Painting him was an absolute pleasure, and his portrait remains one of my favourite pieces of work.

Congratulations to the beautiful Lambourn, 2025 Derby winner! Victory never seemed in doubt for him. A son of another Derby winner in Australia, grandson of yet another in Galileo, and all three trained by the phenomenal Mr O'Brien, it seems written in the stars from this viewpoint. Most of us will only ever dream of winning the Derby - including my foal pictured here. Coincidentally, the inspiration for this painting was another c**t by Australia. How about this fellow for poise and presence? He might not be the biggest dog in the world but he has a huge amount of personality and charm, with a distinctive name to match - Oliver Plum.

I thoroughly enjoyed meeting him and his owner, and painting his portrait, which went down very well with my client, I'm happy to say.

My most recent commission was a sensitive matter. Unusually for me, I wasn't able to meet the subject of the portrait, a much-loved Springer Spaniel named Arthur, who had recently passed away. Thanks to his family's ready understanding of what I needed in terms of resources, we collected a wide variety of photos and videos of Arthur, which gave me an idea of his personality, spirit and of course his physical appearance.

His family very kindly sent me these lovely words following completion of the painting, for which I'm very grateful:

“Having lost our beloved Arthur earlier this year, we were blessed to find Anne after a few Google searches. Since we only had mainly impulsive photos on our mobiles from holidays and leisurely walks, I was slightly apprehensive when it came to the unveiling, I needn't have worried, as Anne captured an uncanny likeness. Arthur’s portrait now takes pride of place, to be remembered always. Thank you so much.”

I am delighted to announce that Newmarket Racecourses have chosen a new selection of ten of my prints for display at the Rowley Mile, in addition to the three 'Foal Collection' and two 'Retired Racehorse' original paintings that are already hanging in the Runners' Bistro. I am very grateful to Newmarket Racecourses - The Home of Horseracing for their ongoing support of my work, and wish them the very best for the season ahead, which really steps up a gear tomorrow with the first day of the Guineas meeting.

Happy Birthday to the beautiful Anapurna, multiple black-type winner, including The Oaks and the Prix de Royallieu. Every day's a day for extra carrots when you have this on your CV!

I was delighted to be asked by Meon Valley Stud to paint Anapurna and two other Group 1-winning homebred mares, two years ago. Apart from her excellent race record, she was a wonderful subject for me - elegant, graceful, and pure quality.
