We're looking for amazing Visual 2D artists, Ceramicists, and Spoken Word performers to go head to head create in the moment, and wow the crowd!

To celebrate World Art Day, we’re launching a brand new competition! 🎨 This summer, we're transforming the streets of Newcastle-under-Lyme into a vibrant outdoor gallery… and we want YOU to be part of it! 🖼️

Submit your artwork for a chance to be featured on colourful flags flying high across High Street, Ironmarket & Castle Walk!

Our theme is People and Place . We want to see what makes this town special to you. A landmark? A park? Your mates? Your gran? Maybe you? Show us through art!

We’re accepting submissions from 3 age groups: 0–9 years, 10–17 years, 18+ 🫶

How to enter: Email your artwork (A4 or A3) to [email protected] or drop it off at: 4 Fogg Street, Newcastle-under-Lyme, ST5 2RE before Friday 23rd May.

Selected designs will be displayed in the town centre all summer long ☀️

It’s beginning to bloom at the new Community Garden🪴

Last week an amazing crew of volunteers from GROW North Staffs, Newcastle College and Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council came together to give an old herb garden a sunny makeover!

We even uncovered some cheeky radishes and spring onions still hanging on from last season and yep, they made the perfect mid-gardening snack 🥬😋

Big shoutout to Bruno from Pasta Di Piazza Italiana - Newcastle under Lyme for keeping everyone hydrated with some much-needed drinks!

⏰ 2-3pm - Ekphrastic Poetry Workshop

Led by acclaimed writer and playwright Dr. Lisa Blower, this workshop invites participants to create poetry inspired by the powerful images from the North Staffordshire Miners' Wives exhibition.

⏰ 4-5pm - Unveiling the North Staffordshire Miners' Wives Archives

Celebrate the integration of the North Staffs Miners' Wives archives into Keele University's Special Collections. The discussion features Professor Ceri Morgan, Rose Hunter (NSMWAG) and Helen Burton) Keele University Special Collections and Archives).

Hojo Hattery is bringing hat-making home! Holly creates one-of-a-kind handmade hats. She once created a custom Mountie hat and block shaped like The Barracks building (It feels almost like fate!) Local circus performer, costume maker and artist Eve is bringing her extensive experience to the town! Being part of a circus family, Eve’s parents held circus workshops with their first ever taking place at The Barracks in 1994. Run by husband-and-wife duo Hazel and Stephen who’ve spent years collecting and originally started on the market stalls in 'Castle. They’re making their return from Longton for an even bigger space! Now you can find them opposite the historic Queens Gardens.
