Whinnybank Cat Sanctuary

Whinnybank Cat Sanctuary Whinnybank Cat Sanctuary has been rescuing and re-homing cats and kittens in Fife (Scotland) and beyo

Run by Sue Hancock and other volunteers, Whinnybank Cat Sanctuary has been successfully rescuing and re-homing cats and kittens since 1978. While most of the cats and kittens handed in and re-homed at Whinnybank are regular domestic pets, Sue Hancock also does a lot of work with feral cats. She gets calls from farms, hotels and other places with feral colonies that are getting out of control. Know

ing that the local council no longer traps cats, and that if they are called in, the council arrange for the colony to be indiscriminately exterminated, often leaving kittens to starve if the mother has been killed. Sue spends many hours and a small fortune on petrol, trapping the cats and getting them checked and neutered by the vet. The council often put calls on to Sue from people asking for help with feral colonies, but they are unwilling to help in any way, not even with the costs. The Cats Protection League do not do large-scale feral work, but they do sometimes help Whinnybank with a grant or donations of cat food. If a feral colony gets above 15 cats, nature is cruel and cat flu often sets in, so the vets bills can be huge. Very often a few neutered cats will be returned to the original location, ensuring that the colony will not get out of control again. If kittens are trapped at a young enough age, our kitten fosterers work hard to tame them so that they can be homed. The other adults and untameable kittens then spend the rest of their lives running free at the Sanctuary, unless we manage to find new homes for them at farms or stables. It is hard, expensive and often frustrating work but definitely worthwhile! Any donations can be made at the Whinnybank fund raising shops in Newburgh and Auchtermuchty, or by sending a cheque made payable to 'Mrs S Hancock, cat rescue account' to Whinnybank, Lumbennie Road, Newburgh KY14 6ET.

Please click on photo to see all info. Milo is a male and will be five years old in November 2026. Milo is a house cat. Milo is super friendly and loves to sit on your knee and give you cuddles and just loves company. NEW UPDATE

Pleases click on photo to see all info. We are now up and running. Please note that there will no longer be cats/kittens going to the Sanctuary which is why we have a small team of approved fosterers ready to continue the good work that Whinnybank has done for many years. If the fosterers already have cats/kittens, you will be placed on a waiting list until a fosterer becomes available....

Hi Linda

Charlie is settling so well as you can see. Morning snuggles and lots of purring. He sleeps on my bed now every night. He is so sweet and I just love him.

He still doesn’t play with me but loves his mouse toys I bought him and throws them around and then loses them until I look under furniture for him. Loves treats too.

Regards

Karen
