Fancy doing something really special, being at one with nature !

Why not book our VIP Woodland Hawk Walk !

You’ll arrive at the Falconry Centre, met by one of our experienced falconers with welcome drinks of your choice, then taken on a private tour of the falconry centre.
Your opportunity to ask any questions before we embark to our Historic and private woodland.

Once we arrive your falconer will deliver a little background information about the woodland, its History and the wildlife that resides in this amazing place.
You’ll then be taken on a walk through the heart of the woodland along with one of our amazing Hawks.
The hawk will follow us on your journey flying through the trees and flying down to land on your glove throughout the walk. See the hawk navigate through some tightest spaces demonstrating the agility of these incredible birds.

Once we arrive back at the vehicle, now having worked up a healthy appetite, you’ll be taken back to the falconry centre to enjoy a lunch of your choice! Where you can relax, chat about your experience, and go through your photos. After lunch you’re free to have a further walk around, chat to members of staff and ask questions you may have !
This is an experience that doesn’t have to stop there and will leave you wanting more!

Meet Ash!

Ash partakes in helping out at the farm through her college course, gaining experience with a variety of species. She joined us at go active after wanting to further expand the variety of species she works.

Ash has a particular interest in birds of prey, and would like to further her interest by working alongside our birds and falconers, expanding her knowledge on birds outside of the ones they have at college.

The goal for Ash at the end of her placement is to gain more skills with birds of prey and knowledge before completing another course.

Barn owls are Ash’s favourite, finding them the most intriguing and incredible hunters with their silent flight 🦉

Meet Alex!

Alex is studying BSc (Hons) degree in wildlife conservation which she is thoroughly enjoying.

Alex chose us as she loves the fact that you get to work as part of a team, and that we educate the general public on the variety of bird of prey species that exist along with conservation work that is done to protect them. She also enjoys watching the flying displays and being able to help out with that.

Alex hopes to gain new skills and develop as a person whilst doing her placement at Go Active Falconry, and to progress to become a falconer in the future!

Alex says ‘my ultimate favourite species to work with is the White faced Scops Owl, as they have character and are gentle to handle’. 🦉

Hi there, This month, I’m walking 62 miles for Dementia UK – a cause close to my heart. Just £8 could pay for the telephone costs of two families calling its free Dementia Helpline, so any support would be appreciated. Thank you so much!

Meet Haydn!

Haydn has recently joined us past few months, and has been building his confidence around the birds!

He chose falconry as he wanted to have a wider range of animals that he has worked with, getting hands on experience and helping with the husbandry that goes behind caring for our birds 🦅

Haydn is hoping to build his skills with handling birds of prey, but also life skills which will help him once he finishes college 😊

So far his favourite species are the snowy owls, however whilst building his confidence with the birds Bobby our barn owl has been great for teaching Haydn the safe and correct way to handle a bird 🦉

Meet Lewis!

Lewis has joined us as part of his work experience, whilst studying level 3 animal management. Birds of prey is something he’s always loved and had an interest in, and now he has the opportunity to work more closely with them!

Lewis wants to gain experience in learning how to correctly and safely handle our birds, so far he’s had some experience with our hawks! (which are his favourite), and he also wants to gain an understanding of the birds behaviours and the psychology behind it all 😊

Meet Kayleigh!

Kayleigh joined us just under 6 months ago and has been progressing great! She is currently studying level 3 animal management, so animals are her passion!

She chose falconry as her work experience to broaden the range of species she works with, and hopes to gain experience and knowledge in working with birds of prey.

She particularly likes the Harris hawks, and has been on our hawk walk experiences to help understand the bond between the bird and the falconer 😊

Meet Chloe!

Chloe is currently studying level 3 animal management, and has discovered her passion is birds of prey!

She has joined the team over recent months, yet is already gaining lots of experience and building her confidence in handling and husbandry.
Chloe particularly wants a career with birds of prey, and has expressed she enjoys working with the owls 🦉 so far she is very happy with the hands on experience she’s had, and hopes to understand in depth the behaviours of the birds and working practices of falconry to help with her career plans 😊

Meet Karina!

Karina is our youngest volunteer currently studying her GCSEs, however her passion is working with animals!

She already has a wide range of experience with different species, having recently volunteered with birds at a rescue centre, yet working with birds of prey is something completely new. She is hoping to build her confidence with multiple species via handling and understanding the husbandry behind caring for our birds.

Karina plans to become a vet nurse in the future, so gaining experience with a wide variety of animals is essential! The plan is to teach her as much as we can when it comes to safely handling birds and ensuring they receive the utmost care 😊

Welcome to our student takeover week!

Each day we’ll create a post helping you get to know our students that volunteer with us… we appreciate everything they do to help the falconry centre and wouldn’t be able to do it without them!

Let’s start with Holly….

Holly is currently studying Wildlife Conservation BSc (Hons)
Holly says ‘during my volunteering I enjoy gaining insight into positive raptor welfare, plus it’s amazing to see the strong bonds between the staff and their birds. It’s also interesting learning about the diversity of avian species and adaptations allowing them to survive in their habitats’.

‘A raptor species I particularly love are vultures, who often have a negative reputation. Although they seem intimidating to some, vultures are important and act as a natural clean up crew for their ecosystems’.

‘In the future, I’d love to work within nature-based community projects and public engagement, after being involved with this during my traineeship with the Wildlife Trust. It would be amazing to inspire young people and educate them about our amazing creatures’.
