Why does my baby put EVERYTHING in their mouth?! 🙈

If your little one is constantly chewing, sucking, or exploring with their mouth—don’t worry, it’s completely normal!

✨ Fun fact: In the first few months, a baby’s tongue has the highest concentration of nerve endings, making it their best tool for learning! Before their hands take over, their mouth helps them explore textures, shapes, sizes, weights, smells, and even tastes!

Of course, always supervise play and keep choking hazards out of reach, but mouthing is an important part of development—it’s how babies make sense of the world around them!

At Tots Play, we create a safe, engaging space for little ones to explore, discover, and yes... chew on things! (Don’t worry, we clean everything after! 😉)

So, what are you waiting for? Come and join the fun! 🥰

Becoming a parent is a pretty life changing experience isn’t it?

You go from laughter to tears, joy to frustration, love to worry and back again every day, if not every hour!

This is something we really understand at Tots Play, and why our Baby Development course is especially for parents with new babies, and the perfect first baby class for you and your little one.

Not only will you learn lots of different ways to connect, bond, play and have fun with your baby during the course, but you’ll find a welcoming, supportive environment, surrounded by others who “get” that your life just changed completely, and that can really help when you’re navigating all the ups and downs that having a new baby involves!

The course is everything you need for your baby in one, and you and your little one will experience a wide range of activities to support different areas of development, including baby massage, baby yoga, baby sign language, tummy time, calming techniques and sensory play, but you’ll come away from the course having learned and gained so much more.

Toddlers and young children have tantrums, it is NORMAL!

When it comes to tantrums, your child is definitely not the only one to ever have them. Tantrums are extremely common and part and parcel of your child’s development. We have all been there, and we are here for you! Here are some top tips to help you deal with your little ones tantrums 💖

Help toddlers to understand their feelings
You can do this by reading stories. This gives you the opportunity to talk about and name emotions. You could speak with them about how characters react and what they would do in certain situations.

Reward the behaviour you want to see
Whenever your little one does something you’d like to see more of, reward that behaviour with praise and attention! Feeling noticed and appreciated encourages them to repeat those positive actions, strengthening their confidence and connection with you.

Giving control over little things
Offering choices over clothes or which fruit they eat will make them feel they have a say - give a choice of two options, this will help them feel more in control even when they are limited.

Try and say yes when you can. Or maybe say less "no's" - instead of no say "maybe later we could.." or "that would be really fun, we could do that in a few days" - Choose your battles.

Pre-empt your child’s needs. If they’re tired, don’t take them on an epic supermarket shop. If they’re hungry, pack snacks for a long car journey. Being tired and hungry are two of the biggest tantrum triggers.

If your toddler gets frustrated or upset, help them find words for his feelings and comfort them too – for example, ‘Aw no. Banana fell down. It’s OK. There’s more banana in your bowl’. Understanding emotions is a key part of self-regulation, which is important for all your child’s relationships, now and in the future.

It’s also important to look after yourself. Even spending a few minutes a day doing something you enjoy like going for a walk or reading a magazine can make a big difference to how you feel about the time you spend with your child. Looking after yourself is good for you, so it’s good for your relationship with your child and their development!

Tots Play classes are a safe space where you can come along with your child and leave the fear of judgement behind! Book now at www.totsplay.co.uk xx

Every day is a new adventure for your baby and every day counts in their journey of development, so it's never too early to learn ways to support that development to give your little one the best start in life.

If the world of babies is new to you though you may be a bit unsure of exactly what you can do to support their development, and that's where we can help.

Our classes not only provide a warm, welcoming space where you can share the highs and lows of parenthood with others at a similar stage, but you'll also learn a whole range of ways to help your baby learn and grow, even at this early stage.

These early weeks and months are crucial, because what your baby experiences now will shape all their future learning too, so it's never too early to get started.

Join a class today and let us help guide you through this special time in your life, so you really can make every moment count.

Head over to www.totsplay.co.uk/neath to book a class and I look forward to seeing you there!

I can't guarantee that your little one will sleep after Sensory Play, but after discovering lots of new things with their touch, sight and through feeling them, their little brains will need time to process what they have learnt - and this happens while they’re sleeping!

Oh, and did I mention our classes also involve massage, yoga and more - also sure fire ways to create a sleepy baby?

Take a look at www.totsplay.co.uk to find out more and let Tots Play classes fill your little one with wonder... and hopefully the desire to sleep afterwards! xx

I often get asked about the different classes that we offer. So thought it would be a good idea to put some details here about them. So here goes, I hope I answer some of your questions. But please as always, do get in touch if anything is unclear.

The main thing abut all my classes is that they are limited to small numbers so that you ad your baby feel comfortable and at home. I know myself how daunting it can be to go to a new environment with a young baby - just be reassured a warm welcome awaits you both. And worry not, if your baby sleeps through the whole class, or feeds through the whole class, or even cries (it’s what they do) , I don't even mind if you stand and rock your baby for the whole session. The main thing is - you get out for your own sanity and talk to other mothers. And as most of those who come - make new friends that meet up between classes too!

Ok so here goes (sorry I rambled a bit then)

Baby Development Course - This is a course for babies from birth to 4 months (eve though have had some older) A Strong Foundation for Growth and Development
