🐾 Tick Season Is Here – Protect Your Dog 🐾
As the weather warms up, we’re entering peak tick season—and our dogs are especially at risk when exploring grassy, wooded, or rural areas.
👀 What to look out for:
Ticks are small, spider-like parasites that latch onto your dog’s skin to feed. They can be as tiny as a pinhead or swell up as they feed. Check your dog carefully after walks—especially around the ears, neck, under the collar, between toes, under the legs, and around the tail.
⚠️ Why be concerned?
Ticks can transmit serious illnesses to dogs, including Lyme disease and other infections. These can lead to symptoms like lethargy, joint pain, fever, and loss of appetite if not treated promptly.
🛑 What to do if you find a tick:
* Remove it as soon as possible using a tick remover or fine-tipped tweezers
* Grip the tick close to the skin and pull straight out steadily (avoid twisting or crushing)
* Clean the area with a pet-safe antiseptic
* Monitor your dog for any changes in behaviour or signs of illness over the next few weeks
💡 Top tip: Keep your dog up to date with tick prevention treatments—speak to your vet about the best option.
Enjoy your walks, but don’t forget to check your furry friend afterwards!
