🐾 Some very interesting developments for the pet care industry!

We’ll be following this proposed campaign for greater regulation of dog walkers, pet sitters and other pet-care professionals with great interest.

At Pawcation, we have always believed that looking after someone’s pet is a huge responsibility. That’s why professional standards such as appropriate insurance, DBS checks and Pet First Aid training are so important to us.

We’re particularly pleased to see Pet First Aid included in the proposals. As a ProTraining Approved Centre, we already provide Pet First Aid Level 2 (VTQ) training to pet-care professionals, as well as ensuring our own team receives appropriate training.

This is currently a proposed petition rather than a change in the law, but we’ll be interested to see how it develops.

🐾 What do other pet owners and pet professionals think — would you welcome greater regulation within the pet-care industry?

🌟🚨 HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT & MAJOR UPDATE FOR PET PARENTS ACROSS THE UK! 🚨🌟

We are DELIGHTED to share some incredible news

Late yesterday afternoon, The Petitions Committee at the House of Commons has officially confirmed that with a few small wording adjustments in order that we meet parliamentary standards — our request for a Government petition has been ACCEPTED! 🎉🐾

This is a huge step forward for pet parents, responsible pet‑care professionals, and everyone who wants safer, clearer, stronger standards across the entire pet‑care industry.

🐶📜 What the petition will call for
In the coming days, we will share the full petition for signature and distribution, but the essence of the request is a call on the Government to introduce The Pet Care Regulations Bill, which would require:

Greater education and awareness for pet owners - be it via vets and other professionals.
Mandatory licensing for all pet sitters dog walkers, groomers for example
Welfare training for anyone caring for pets - including Canine First Aid.
DBS/Enhanced DBS checks/Renewals DBS
Public liability insurance
A central public register of ALL licensed pet care professionals

In the bill, we are also asking that pet sitting apps and platforms are also held to account to ensure verifications etc take place.

PLUS (subject to parliamentary approval):
A register for individuals prosecuted for animal cruelty, similar in principle to existing offender registers

This is about protecting pets, reassuring owners, and supporting responsible professionals who are already do things properly either be it new to the pet care world or for those that have been doing it for years

🐾💛 Why this matters
Right now, ANYONE can offer pet sitting or dog walking for example, without:
Training
Insurance
ID checks
Background checks
Licensing
Oversight

Further, those that have been convicted of animal cruelty can then start a dog walking business for example, without any checks and balances in place.

This leaves animals vulnerable and pet parents exposed and allows unsafe, even underage operators to slip through unregulated platforms.

Since submitting the petition request on 24th July 2026, it became clear that the issues in pet care are far wider than originally thought. This Bill would be a vital step toward meaningful, long‑overdue change.

📣✨ We would be SO grateful if you could help us spread the word and if you support safer standards for pets and peace of mind for families, we’d be incredibly grateful if you could:

Share our page 💛
Share the steps being taken to drive change
Help amplify the petition when it goes live
Every share helps reach another pet parent, another responsible professional, another person who cares.

🙏💬 And yes… we are well aware that a minority won’t like this but meaningful change rarely does. We’re here for the pets, the families, and the professionals who want a safer, stronger, more transparent industry.

📝📢 Next steps - Once the final wording is approved, we will share the full petition for signature and distribution.
This is real progress and we are genuinely grateful for every single person supporting this movement.

🐾 Pawcation Adventures with Archie 🐾

We absolutely love our weekly walks with gorgeous Archie, and with a much cooler day, we had the perfect opportunity to take him for a lovely peaceful walk along the canal. 💚

What a beautiful walk it is! We enjoyed watching the canal boats go by and spotting plenty of ducks and swans along the way. 🦆🦢

We thought we’d stop for a moment and admire the swans… until they decided to come a little too close! 😂 Needless to say, Archie and I scarpered pretty quickly!

Quite right too — as lovely as our local wildlife is to watch, it’s important that we always give them plenty of space and respect their environment. 🐾🌿

At Pawcation, we offer peaceful solo dog walks, giving your dog individual attention and a walk tailored to them.

If you’re looking for a friendly, reliable dog walking service in and around Nantwich, we’d love to hear from you. 🐶💚

🐾 Pawcation Pet First Aid Tip of the Week 🐾

🐝 Bee or Wasp Sting? Do You Know the Difference?

Summer is a wonderful time to get outdoors with our dogs, but curious noses often get a little too close to buzzing insects!

Knowing the difference between a honey bee and a common wasp can help you know what to do if your dog is stung.

🐝 Honey Bee
• Furry, golden-brown body.
• Can only sting once because it leaves its barbed stinger behind.
• If you can see the stinger, gently scrape it away using the edge of a bank card or another flat object. Avoid using tweezers if possible, as squeezing the stinger can release more venom.

🐝 Common Wasp
• Smooth, shiny body with a narrow waist.
• Bright yellow and black markings.
• Does not leave its stinger behind and can sting multiple times.
• Move your dog away from the area to prevent further stings.

Common signs of a sting:

🐾 Sudden yelp or crying out.
🐾 Licking or chewing the affected area.
🐾 Swelling or redness.
🐾 Limping if stung on a paw.
🐾 Pawing at the face or rubbing it on the ground.

What should you do?

✅ Stay calm and keep your dog as relaxed as possible.
✅ Apply a cool compress wrapped in a towel to help reduce swelling.
✅ Monitor your dog closely over the next few hours.

Contact your vet immediately if your dog:

❗ Has been stung inside the mouth or throat.
❗ Has difficulty breathing.
❗ Develops severe swelling around the face or neck.
❗ Collapses, becomes weak or unusually sleepy.
❗ Has multiple stings.

This is so funny! Mollie one of my walkers at Pawcation Pet Services just went back to her car with gorgeous Ralphy, just to put something back in when he decided to jump into the front seat! 🐾 Should the Pet Care Industry Be Legislated❓

As the owner of Pawcation Pet Services, my answer is YES!

At the moment, anyone can advertise themselves as a dog walker or pet sitter, regardless of their knowledge, experience or qualifications. While many businesses are caring and professional, there are currently no minimum legal standards for the industry.

I believe every professional pet care business should meet basic requirements such as:
🐾 Insurance
🐾 DBS checks
🐾 Pet First Aid training
🐾 Knowledge of animal welfare and behaviour

This isn’t about creating barriers for good businesses – it’s about protecting the pets we all love and giving owners confidence that their pets are in safe hands.

Unfortunately, the lack of legislation doesn’t just affect pet owners. It also impacts genuine, professional businesses that invest in training, insurance, DBS checks and high standards. When everyone appears to offer the same service online, it can be difficult for owners to know the difference.

My advice to every pet owner is simple: ask to see proof. Don’t just take someone’s word for it.

At Pawcation Pet Services, we don’t wait to be asked. At every meet and greet, we bring our insurance documents, DBS certificates and qualifications with us and are always happy to show them. We have nothing to hide because we believe trust is earned through honesty, transparency and professionalism.

What do you think? Should dog walkers and pet sitters have to meet minimum legal standards before offering their services?

🌾 Pawcation Pet First Aid Tip of the Week 🌾

Tiny Grass Seeds Can Cause BIG Problems!

At this time of year, grass seeds are one of the most common seasonal hazards for dogs. Although they may look harmless, these sharp little seeds can work their way into your dog’s body and cause painful infections or even require surgery to remove.

Common places grass seeds become lodged include:
🐾 Between the toes and in the paws
👂 Inside the ears
👁 In or around the eyes
👃 Up the nose
🩹 Under the skin

Signs to look out for:
• Excessive licking or chewing at a paw
• Limping
• Persistent head shaking or scratching at an ear
• Sneezing repeatedly or a bloody discharge from the nose
• Red, watery or swollen eyes
• Swellings, lumps or wounds that don’t seem to heal

What should you do?
✅ Check your dog’s paws, ears and coat after every walk, especially if you’ve been through long grass.
✅ Groom long-haired dogs regularly to help spot any hidden grass seeds.
❌ Never dig around trying to remove a grass seed yourself if it has penetrated the skin or entered an ear, eye or nose.
☎️ If you suspect a grass seed has become lodged, contact your vet as soon as possible. Early treatment can prevent more serious complications.
