There are over 9 million pet cats in England, with as many as 2.3 million unchipped!

➡️Compulsory microchipping for all owned cats is coming into place
➡️Owners will have until 10 June 2024 to microchip their cat

Sadly 8 out of 10 stray cats coming into Cats Protection centres are not microchipped which makes reuniting them with their owners an exceedingly difficult task.

Microchipping dogs has been mandatory since 2016, despite this dogs sometimes still are not microchipped or their details kept up to date.

But does microchipping help reunite pets with their owners?

In a report by Battersea 94% of stray dogs that were fully compliant with the microchipping regulations were reunited successfully by Local Authorities with their keepers.

Accurately microchipped dogs are 54% more likely to be reunited with their keepers or owners than unmicrochipped dogs if they go missing.

When polled on Veterinary Voices UK 100% of veterinary professionals scan ALL stray cats to help reunite them with their owners.

If your cat is microchipped already:

✅ Check you have your cats microchip number handy
✅ Check you know which company they are microchipped to
✅ Keep all details up to date
✅ Flag your pet as 'missing' as soon as you have concerns they are lost

It’s the 1st of May, which means it’s the start of Veterinary Nursing Awareness Month 2024!

This year, our theme is ‘Progression’, and we aim to highlight the diverse range of skills, abilities and career pathways of veterinary nurses. We’ll also be raising awareness amongst the public about why protecting the ‘veterinary nurse’ title is so crucial.

In 2024, we celebrate 20 years since the campaign began, from its early beginnings as Veterinary Nursing Awareness Day from 2004, and since 2012 we’ve been campaigning for the whole month.

Meet Jasmine - 19 month English Springer Spaniel.
Jas was rehomed 4 months ago and is settling in very nicely.
She’s absolutely adorable, and her family feel so lucky to have her. She loves everybody!
She suffers from bad separation anxiety so that’s work in (very slow) progress, along with her on-lead training 🐾

Meet Bobby - he is a 1 year old cockapoo. Just look at what a handsome boy he is 😍 he belongs to my brother Jamie and his partner Tom. He loves to steal peoples socks and stare out of the window, waiting for his dads to come home! He is the happiest boy you’ll ever meet with the sweetest nature. He is a joy to be around 🥰🐾

2 years ago today I passed my OSCE assessments and it was one of the proudest moments of my life so far! OSCE’s are the practical assessments Veterinary Nurses must pass before they are entered onto the Register of Veterinary Nurses 🥰🐾

Meet Fudge - a 2 year old cocker spaniel 🐶 he is my best friend Anthea’s dog and what a gorgeous boy he is!
Fudge loves long walks, swimming, balls and sticks. He is the greediest doggo and is always up to some mischief. His favourite foods are carrots and salmon skin. He’s always looking for cuddles and belly rubs, and is really the softest soul 🐾

Happy national pet day!
This is my families beloved cat, Diva 🐱 she is a 10 year old rescue who loves nothing more than belly rubs, dreamies and sunbathing. We were originally told that she was deaf, but seen as she can hear a food packet being opened from 3 streets away, we have concluded that the rescue centre just assumed she was deaf because she is a white cat!
We have definitely noticed her slowing down as she gets older but she still gets the zoomies at least once a day and is always pestering everyone for food. She’s our little angel, I don’t know what we would do without her 🐾
