Preseli Pony Trekking at Ashvale Holiday and Riding Stables

We are a fully licenced and insured Pony Trekking and Riding Centre situated in the Preseli Hills. We cater for all riders.

We offer a wide choice of riding from Intro Treks for Complete Beginners up to Full Day Trail Rides for Experienced riders. We can take riders from age 3yrs and over on our Tiny Tots Trail. We also offer Pony Parties and Riding Weekends with camping available.

Seriously though, there is a local outbreak of Equine Influenza which is thoroughly unpleasant and highly contagious. We do NOT have it, and we certainly don't want our herd to catch it. Therefore, we are currently closed to visitors. We are not allowing any viewings for sale horses, loans or livery places at the present time.

Thank you for everyone's kind messages and support after our closure announcement yesterday. I have been absolutely inundated with enquiries about our much loved horses and cobs that are for ⛵️. I am slowly trying to work through all the messages! Please be patient as there is only one of me...

Please only enquire if:

You can offer a home with at least one other horse - ours are used to living in a herd of 18 ponies and require equine company.

If you are learning to ride then please support your local Riding School. If you want a pony to learn on, then ours are not for you. They are patient and kind but if you need to learn to ride, then you are not ready to purchase a horse.

Our horses are all forward going, responsive but safe. They are not plods or robots. If you are nervous then they are not for you... They will look after you but in a new home, they will require a human who is confident and will keep them safe, not transfer nerves and instil fear.

Most of our horses have never seen an arena, hacked alone, been to a show or jumped. However, they are safe hacking on the open mountain, good in traffic, canter happily in a group and are thoroughly nice people...

Sadly, after 9yrs of welcoming visitors to explore the Preseli Hills on horseback, we have reached the heartbreaking decision to close the pony trekking side of our business.

We understand that this news will disappoint our customers, but the current political and economic climate has forced our closure due to our continually increasing overheads, in particular Pembrokeshire County Council licencing costs and Public Liability insurance costs. This coupled with a significant reduction in Tourist numbers visiting West Wales, makes our Seasonal, tourist-dependent, pony trekking business financially unviable and unsustainable.

Some of our beloved horses and cobs are for sale, and we will offer a few for part or full loan (to remain and be kept here). We will also have a limited number of DIY livery spaces available, so if you are interested please send a message via email [email protected] or WhatsApp 07889 080491.

Just a quick update. We are currently trying to repair Winter storm damage to our farm. We have endured an exceptionally wet winter, and the weather and ground conditions have stopped us getting the horses back into work during February ready for reopening. This means that we will not be open for riding until w/c 16th March and this is for 1hr and 2hr rides only. We will not be offering any 3hr Half Day or Full day rides until May. Our horses fitness and welfare always takes priority.

It's that time of year again!

We are looking for additional volunteer helpers to join our Team before we re-open in March. This opportunity would suit a local person who has some spare time... Maybe retired, unemployed, part time worker or a student. If you are over 18yrs old, available for one day a week or more, and would like some horse time, then please read on....
We are looking for a couple of additional Helpers who are reliable, enthusiastic, polite, hard working and have some previous experience working with, riding and handling horses. Duties include catching in/out, grooming, cleaning tack, tacking up, leading horses/customers and basic stable duties. This is a Volunteer role with training and plenty of riding available in exchange for helping out when we are busy.
There will be additional riding opportunities available for competent riders including taking part in local Fun Rides, Pub Rides etc.
*Please note that strict rider weight limits apply for all riding*. Own transport would be a bonus as we are 3 miles from the A478.
