🌱 March has arrived and Spring is very definitely in the air! Now is an important time to consider a worm egg count of your flock and herd.

🐓🐑🐛 The aim is to do something every season through the year to keep a check on parasite levels and ensure a burden doesn’t get out of hand. Just like with antibiotics, resistance to the worming medications we have available to treat parasite infections is rising. Test with a worm egg count first and use the results to determine if we need to dose.

🐑 As we enter the faecal egg testing window for liver fluke, now is the perfect time to map out your parasite management plan for the year ahead. With this mild and wet winter, your flock’s risk of liver fluke infections is higher than usual. We recommend:

✅ Testing for liver fluke at least once from late winter to summer
✅ Watching for clinical signs: weight loss, reduced appetite, diarrhoea, anaemia
✅ Monthly worm egg counts during grazing season to monitor parasite burden
✅ Carrying out reduction tests after anthelmintic treatments to track resistance
