๐ World Volunteers Week ๐
This week, we take a moment to recognise and celebrate the incredible impact of volunteers everywhere. ๐
At Abbey House, weโre proud to be part of a wider community that values compassion, generosity, and giving back. Whether itโs supporting local initiatives, helping colleagues, or contributing time and skills beyond the day-to-day role โ every act of volunteering makes a real difference.
Volunteers embody the very best of what it means to care โ for our communities, our patients, and each other. ๐พ
Here is some information from Cas, RVN, about her volunteering journey...
'I've been volunteering with a small cat rescue in Barnsley since November 2024. I spend my Sunday mornings cleaning trays and pens, and feeding and helping to socialise the cats. I find it super rewarding to see the shy ones come around, start to play and interact with the volunteers, and it is a bittersweet moment to see them leave with their new owners. I've been involved in fundraisers with the recue, including 'I'm a Kittycat, Get Me Out of Here' in February, involving an overnight stay in the outdoors. I was under cover but it was still chilly! I was also deprived of luxury items like my phone, sweet treats and drinks, and had to perform tasks and challenges for a precious 5 minutes of access.
It's tiring, and while I'd love to spend my Sunday mornings having a lie in, I enjoy being greeted by the resident cats who see me and know it's breakfast time! '
