Play school for dogs provides a high quality professional environment for dogs, with structured play, mental stimulation and companionship.Our fully enclosed meadow in the Woodchester valley is a dog's paradise. Energetic dogs can let off steam with other friendly dogs, older dogs may prefer to snuffle about in the shrubbery, and puppies have their own dedicated puppy paddock. After a day at play school, your dog will return happy, stimulated, and ready to rest.

Sunday 7 June 🐾

For those unable to do the full walk next Sunday, the Horsfall House bus is running a shuttle service taking humans back up the hill!

As dogs aren’t allowed in the HH bus, Jovie will be on standby in a Playschool Fun Bus to be dog taxi.

We will be parked up by Avening Social Club with drinking water for your dogs.

We hope to see lots of you next Sunday for the Community Walk raising money for Horsfall House.

Start any time between 9:30 and 12:30 from Horsfall House. Head to the HH website Events page for registration.

🌳 The circular route starts at Minchinhampton Library and winds through some of the most beautiful countryside in the area and finishes at Horsfall House 🌲

The route includes rare public access to Gatcombe Park Wood and Avening Court opened exclusively for the event with the kind permission of their owners.

Full route:
Minchinhampton → Gatcombe Wood → Avening Court → Avening Social Club → Weighbridge Inn → Box Woods → Horsfall House.

For those who prefer a shorter walking distance, an alternative five-mile return route is available after Avening Court, plus there is a mini bus service from Avening Social Club to Horsfall House for humans and dogs who don’t want to do the full route.

Puppies don’t always know when to stop, and when we attempt to enforce breaks they can stubbornly refuse to lie down (“but there’s too much fun I might miss!”).

Often, one of the Play Leaders will lie down with the pup to keep them company. This is obviously a horrible part of the job and no one wants to do it 🤷🏻‍♀️

A friend of Playschool recently donated this giant snuggle bed, making puppy break times a whole lot more comfortable! Unfortunately, it hasn’t magicked the puppies into instant slumber quite yet.

Today we lost money.
And I’m so happy.

I’m so happy that as a small business we can choose our own moral standards.

I’m so happy that we have loyal clients who trust our opinion when we give it.

I’m so happy that we haven’t forgotten why we do this: to give every dog a great day, to help them become the best version of themselves.

I’m so happy that our wonderful team put in an incredible effort to ensure that every dog who had to come to Playschool today (because staying at home wasn’t a safe option in this weather) was kept entertained in the calmest, coolest way possible.

I’m so happy that everyday I know the team can go home and feel proud that their day has meant something. That however small, we are making a difference in these dog’s lives.

Things are difficult at the moment, for everyone, and losing money doesn’t feel good.
But I’m so happy that today we did.
