AUGUST BOOKINGS UPDATE. Well as you can imagine things are really hotting up with all of you itching to get away.

There will be a point when I will need to close my books off so if you do have dates and would like to book your cats in for a feed as I would hate you to lose your booking slot..

If you are delayed on your travels please do not worry. There is no extra cost involved just message me and your cats will continue to fed and meds administered until you get home safe and sound.

An early start and all cats 🐈 and plants 🪴 are happy. We had plenty of rain which was great for the plants. Cats were a little pained by having stick legs from all the rain but are happy to see the temperatures drop slightly.

I will be doing admin and invoicing thos morning. Those bookings are coming in fast.

Well we are at that time of year again. An early start and the catmobile. Here is a little holiday check list for those of you rushing around making sure you have everything ready for your cat. HEAT ALERT. A lot of cats do manage to adapt to extreme heat. They are born survivors BUT just in case your cat is struggling here are a few tips.

1. Keep your cat hydrated. Fluid intake is vital. It is common for cats to eat less in warm weather but as long as you ensure those water levels are going down sufficiently your cat is maintaining hydration. As the weather turns and gets cooler try giving boiled streaded chicken breast and mix with a little rice. It is high in protein and helps restore appetite plus hardens any poos if your cat does have the slight runs. Pop a few ice cubes in your cats water so at least the cat has a bit of extra time to drink water which is nice and cool and more inviting during hot weather. Move cat bowls away from direct sunlight and move into more shaded positions of your house. You can also stick water in the wet food so if your cat attempts the wet food you also know the cat is receiving fluids that way

2. Cats eat less wet food in the Summer. Wet food tends to go off more quickly. Microchip cat feeders are great. The lids come down when the cats finish feeding to prevent flies. Add more water or stick an ice cube in the center of each bowl to help keep wet food moist. Another option is to stick to dry food but cats that eat dry food drink more water so if you have a litter tray keep refreshing the cat litter more frequently. You can also switch your cat bowls to catmate timers and place cool blocks under the food trays and set timers to hours which your cat normally feeds so the food is not exposed for too long.

3. If your cat is more slumpy and not drinking its water and off it,s food. Try giving it water from a syringe. Fluid intake is more important It,s best to keep your cat indoors during heatwaves, As they walk on pathways which get hot this not only can burn their feet but also raise the cats body temperature causing dehydration.

4. Draw all curtains in the house and expose your cat to tiled floors. Place cool blocks under cat blankets if necessary. . Set up litter tray and monitor. If you notice that your cat is starting to have the runs and still not drinking consult your vet and seak advice as to what you need to do next. It could mean a simple visit to the vet to have fluids administered if needed.

HOLIDAY CHECK LIST

Well the weather is definitely heating up and with everything going on before you go away on your travels here is a little check list to ensure all goes smoothly ready for when I come and feed your cats and they are kept warm and cosy. I am DBS checked, insured and trained to administer medication by Greensands Vets. 1. Ensure you have enough wet and dry food including extra just in case you do get delayed (Remember to whatsapp me on 07999 862705 if you do get delayed. There is no extra cost and your cats will continue to be fed until you get home safe and sound. )

2. Ensure you have enough p**p bags, litter tray liners, cat litter to last the duration of your holiday plus extra for delays.

3. If your cat is on medication please ensure that you order your medication through your vet weeks before you go away. This allows your vet time to order the medication in to ensure you have the medication ready in time for your holiday and quantities to last the duration of your holiday plus extra in case you are delayed. Also ensure that the necessary dosage is made clear and feel free to whatsapp me any changes in dosage. I am trained to administer medication by Greensands Vets so clients do have peace of mind knowing that their cat will continue to receive their course of medication in a timely manner while you are away.

4. If your cat is diabetic please ensure all insulin is correctly stored away at a suitable temperature in your fridge. Please also state the timings of insulin given morning and evening. We can liaise before you go away if any timings need to be adjusted when you go away

5. Ensure your pet feeders and cat timers have fresh batteries inserted and spare batteries on hand.

6. Ensure there are fresh batteries inserted in your microchipped cat flaps to ensure your cats can access.

7. Ensure you smoke detectors have fresh batteries inserted.

8. Ensure your house alarm batteries are fully charged.

9. Cancel your milkman and newspapers

10. Ensure your cat box is out just in case I do need to take your cat to the vet.

11. Ensure all keys are checked they are working. Any key safes are working correctly. All keys to be handed over to me at least 24 hours before you go away.

12. All pet insurance documents and emergencies contact numbers are accessible.

HOSPITAL STAYS. It can be stressful for any cat owner who suddenly needs to go into hospital. There is so much to sort out and one of them is ensuring that your beloved cat is well taken care of while you are away.

Cats prefer being in the comfort of their own home and surroundings and an environment which they are familiar and happy in. It is less stressful for them.

It gives clients extra comfort knowing that I can visit and tend to your cats needs while you are recovering. I am DBS checked, insured and trained to administer medication by Greensands Vets which also gives comfort to many owners knowing that if their cats are also on medication that there is someone who is qualified to administer it.

Hospital stays can happen at a moments notice so I do try and cater for emergency cat feeds as quickly as possible. For those clients that don't have time for a pre meeting I do also have an Emergency Cat Feeding Questionaire which clients or relatives of clients can fill in and email across to me at a moments notice.

All I ask is that I am dropped off a set of keys to the clients property and that those keys have been checked that they are working.
