This lovely photo of Otis was sent to me following his TECAR and physiotherapy treatment yesterday.
Otis was diagnosed with TCS (Tethered cord syndrome), which is a condition where there is an abnormal anchoring of the spinal cord within the spinal canal. This causes tension, and the normal gliding movement of the spinal cord is restricted.
Signs of TCS can show up in the form of lameness, pain in the lower back, chewing of the back feet, suddenly sitting during walks, and in some cases, incontinence. Of course, these signs can be linked to other conditions, too. However, we sent Otis off for a dynamic MRI as a result of our suspicions, and TCS was the diagnosis.
He will be having surgery in a couple of months, but in the meantime, we are managing his symptoms and keeping him as comfortable as possible in preparation for his surgery.
He looks pretty darn comfortable to me in this picture! 😂
