IIs your dog actually fussy or are they trying to tell you they don’t want what’s in their bowl? 👀

You put their food down.

They take one sniff, turn their head and walk away.

Hours later, when hunger finally takes over, they reluctantly eat a few mouthfuls.

Sound familiar?

Before blaming the dog, perhaps we need to start questioning the food.

Dry biscuits, tins, trays and pouches might look different but many are still heavily processed.

The original ingredients can be ground down, bulked out with cheaper starches, thickeners and flavourings, then cooked at high temperatures. Manufactured vitamins and minerals may then be needed to replace lost nutrients and ensure the finished product meets nutritional standards.

It’s convenient. It lasts for months. It has been heavily marketed to us as the normal way to feed our dogs.

But normal doesn’t automatically mean better.

Dogs can digest carbohydrates but they don’t need meals built around wheat, maize, starches and added sugars.

Dogs descend from carnivorous predators. Processed dog food is the new idea meat, bone and organs came first.

That’s why we’re such passionate advocates of properly balanced raw feeding.

Raw feeding is fresh raw meat, edible bone and offal in the correct proportions without turning everything into an unrecognisable, heavily processed product.

For many dogs, that can completely transform mealtimes.

So perhaps your dog isn’t being difficult.

Perhaps they simply aren’t excited by what you’re feeding them.
