🙂 CELEBRATING INDEPENDENT OWNERSHIP 😊

I'm not usually one to put myself on here, but this week I am quietly celebrating working at Avalon for 20 years! 🎉🎉🎉
I first came to Avalon as a vet student seeing practice, started working here in my first year in practice and have been here ever since, first as vet and now as owner and manager.

We are so proud to be independently owned, and intend to stay that way for the foreseeable future. I love looking after our little practice, serving our local community. We really do have a lovely bunch of clients and I want to personally say thank you to every single one of you for your support over the years.

Word of mouth is still our best form of advertising. We see you all recommending us on social media time and time again so thank you. It really means a lot. Please keep on recommending us.

Here I am on Nairn beach this Easter with my dog Lily 🐾🐾

Pet of the Month - Amber

Amber first came to see us at the end of March. She had been licking at her right hind paw. Her owners were not aware of any injury occurring. At the time of initial examination, no visible injury or trauma was seen.

Amber did not respond to medication and was re-examined on 4th April by vet Fran. On this occasion Fran was able to see a crack in one of Amber’s nails. She recommended sedating Amber to remove the cracked nail.

Amber was admitted the same day and the nail shell was removed. Fran noted that the tissue underneath didn’t seem normal and recommended an x-ray. Unfortunately this showed that the bone at the end of Amber’s toe was not normal. The best treatment option for a good longterm outcome was to amputate the toe.

On the 7th April, Amber was admitted for a general anaesthetic and toe amputation. The operation went well.

Amber was super brave and a very good girl following her operation, as she had to come and see our nurses a few times for bandage changes until her wound healed.

Amber’s amputated toe was sent to the lab for analysis to rule out any sinister underlying causes. We were all pleased to find out that the analysis showed only infection and inflammation.

Well done Amber!

🥳🥳WELL DONE CHLOE!!!🥳🥳

Today we are celebrating as our Chloe, student vet nurse, has passed her final nursing exams with flying colours. She will now be proceeding to register with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons to become a Registered Veterinary Nurse.

I am struggling for words to describe how proud we are of Chloe. I know I speak for all Chloe's colleagues and friends here at Avalon when I say how immensely proud we are. It's been a long journey and we've all been here with you through the blood, sweat and tears. You absolutely deserve it and are going to be the most fantastic RVN.

Please join us in congratulating Chloe 🤩

It’s veterinary receptionist appreciation week! We might be biased but we think ours are the best. We hope you agree 👍

KILTWALK 2026

This year our SVN Chloe (and her fiancé Billy) are taking on the Kiltwalk for Endometriosis UK.

Endometriosis is a condition that affects 1 in 10 women, yet is still widely misunderstood. Despite how common it is, it can take 7 to 10 years to get a diagnosis. That’s years of people being dismissed or told their pain is normal.

"Personally, I’ve struggled with symptoms for as long as I can remember, but it wasn’t until I was 19 that endometriosis was even suggested as a possibility.
I then spent five years on an NHS waiting list for diagnostic surgery, with no clear end in sight.
Thankfully, with the support of my family and friends, I was able to access private surgery in 2025."

We are so proud of Chloe and we think we can all agree that she doesn't let this stop her!

If anyone would like to donate to help them reach their goal the link is below...

Pet of The Month - Tia

We thought it was about time we had a rabbit for Pet of the Month, plus it's Easter so of course it needed to be a bunny!!

We have chosen the lovely Tia, who was recently spayed at the practice, to highlight the importance of spaying female rabbits.

Many rabbit owners are unaware, but malignant cancer of the womb can affect up to 80% of rabbits over the age of 5. This is why neutering is so important. We recommend neutering from 5 months of age. If you have a female rabbit and have not yet had her spayed, please speak to a member or the team and we can answer any questions you may have.

Tia coped very well with her surgery and her surgical wound is healing well.

Happy Easter everyone 🐰🐰🐰
