Some will be aware but most wont know what is happening and what we have been enlightened to over the last couple of days about closing all access to vehicles along the sea wall.
I have just wrote this on my shop page.
Here's my outlook on the Sea Wall.
Before any plans were made up I was contacted by Fee and Doug Wilson asking for the sea anglers input and what would benefit us, so I agreed to it and I was placed on an email list and went to various Iron line town consultations.
My little input was for the blocks to be kept as it was why spoil something that was still working (yes meby not safe) but its history and we all have memories of being on there.
The road down was to be separated from the pedestrian with disabled vehicles and then a separate single track road with speed and traffic calming measures made from the materials on site not tarmac.
The first plans I seen at a later date was there was going to be a car park on the entrance from the Haverigg end and a car park in the rocks corner.
As for the fishing side they came back with these stupid platforms that stuck out to sea hanging from the blocks, very safe looking not.
I then went on to say at a meeting in the Guide Hut that there was no need for the fishing platforms and we needed a car park centrally aswell (Lighthouse area).
The next meeting i went to and discussed with the various people that were showing there plans and there was no platforms, there was going to be parking Haverigg end,The Lighthouse area and the rocks corner.
The road around was going to be a single track road with passing places and speed and traffic calming all made from the local stone there was going to be a bunding all along the middle dividing the vehicles and the pedestrians and paths for the disabled vehicles with seating benches dotted along in various positions.
All this sounded great and it was a go ahead from me.
All this time there was never any talk about it being closed to vehicles ( why have car parks if there was going to be no vehicles aloud on there 🤷♂️).
After all them meetings I went to and thought they had taken the ideas on, i stopped receiving emails and alot went on with the family so I never pursued it and I just thought it was happening.
Then this week I find out about the road closure via social media which has shocked me and really pi**ed me off, asking someone for input then to find out like this is not the way to do it, I might be jumping the gun and heads might of changed through the whole process but still alot of the MILLOM folk knew nothing about this until this week.
Everyone has different opinions about things and I was asked to put mine across on behalf of the Sea Anglers and my personal thoughts on the memories that the Sea Wall has created throughout our area.
The family days fishing on the sea wall.
The Club Competitions on the sea wall.
The Beach days in the rocks corner where if you weren't there really early you wouldn't of got a place.
Our shore line was probably where most of us learnt to swim and create lasting memories.
I am sure everyone reading this will have there own personal memories of the sea wall.
All this seems to have been forgotten about.
I was part of the old Millom Sea Anglers committee where Alan Fallows, Bob Coulson and plenty of others fought hard the last time the rspb tried to shut the sea wall around 30 years ago and these proper MILLOM folk went to the houses of Parliament and fought the case and won for it to be kept open, and for it to be classed as a BOAT (Byway Open to All Traffic).
Some people dont understand what things like this mean to the local people and unfortunately the heart and sole of the town is getting ripped apart.
We have tourists, we have new people moving to the area, but I ask myself why and its simple its GODS little acre and us locals love it and these new people need to ask themselves why they've moved here, yes because they loved the area as soon as the came, so let's not spoil it.
A public consultation would of been nice where they could of contacted the correct channels, these sort of things love the publicity all over social media ( Look what we are doing) but they loved to do so much under hand.
Any way thats my point across, amsure everyone has there pros and cons which everyone is entitled to.
As you have probably gathered is if managed to read through all that I arnt the best with spelling and Punctuation but what I am is very passionate for my local area and what our past folk have fought hard for.
