Goldvalley Stud Showing and breeding a small selection of quality section B and part bred performance ponies full of

Goldvalley Stud is a venture between Caroline Mathias and Emily Evans, two friends with a lifelong passion for ponies. Having both been heavily involved with horses, competition and showing separately from a young age, their combined knowledge has in recent years produced a number of balanced young ponies who have gone on to be successful. Goldvalley is the progression from producing others qualit

y young ponies to their own and they are full of fresh ideas. Located in South West Wales on Emily's family farm, also home to a busy livery yard, the facilities are fantastic and all ponies are close by on site. Aiming to only keep a small selection of quality stock to show and breed to ensure a very personal and individual relationship with each pony. The main focus is to show and produce quality welsh section B and part bred performance ponies, with a loving and relaxed approach they aim to raise happy and well balanced young ponies readied for success in any chosen sphere.

Wow it's been a hot minute since I did a stud update, it's been a busy time! Foals, haylage, two jobs and a lot of non horsey commitments and excursions. We have had yet another quiet showing year, and by quiet I mean we have not been anywhere even once. Between lack of time, hands and the flu pinging around the country we've just stayed home and to be honest, nobody has complained. 2019 was the year I've been waiting for, the first year for a "full" crop of foals for us and the year of making some changes and tough decisions. The end of this summer will see a thinning out of our stock, 19 horses in total and only one of me is a lot and something has to give, we were waiting for this year's SPSS evaluation tour to start advertising but as the organisers have very sensibly decided to cancel at many venues due to the Flu outbreak I have now made a start at posting our available stock.

This year was meant to be the start of a deviation in direction for Goldvalley, having dipped into the sport pony world the last two years and loved it the plan was to head in that direction for our 2020 arrivals but I have decided to give my girls a year off and we will be staring fresh next year. I'm itching to finish backing Wispa, desperate to see what Trinity will remember back under saddle and curious to see if I can possibly convince Twinkle to be a more cooperative member of the team again (box rest after a foot abscess last year lead to her doing a huge nope about pretty much everything bar her baby 😂, that's life sometimes).

Hopefully with no foals to panic about arriving (because I can only have a nervous breakdown about one thing at a time, thank you) we can actually get out and show a little in 2020, I must admit seeing everyone do so well at the Royal Welsh had me making low key plans for next year, well done all of you!

In terms of personal updates on ponies, GV Enterprise is now fully equipped and ready for licensing! Everyone told me to be patient and naturally I absolutely haven't been but all is well in the world again. He has no idea and is currently turned out with geldings next to three mares and doesn't give two hoots about anything. Precious boy.

Nova is coming on lovely although I anticipate that she is always going to have a belly full of welsh fire.

The foals are all growing well. As are the teenagers. Cadlanvalley Illusion absolutely towers over everything at mere 2 years of age and I don't think she's got any plans of stopping. Now 2 year old GV Exclusive looks like a fully fledged WHP already and GV Inferno although a year behind in age is starting to pass her in size.

The shetlands are not having foals, they absolutely tricked me and although it's a bit of a shame I'm not heartbroken about it. They are though because they are now on restricted grazing, sorry girls, should have played nicer with the stallion 😂!

All in all, we're fine and we're still here! Hope everyone is okay in the heat/thunderstorms/flu epidemic/horsefly hell weather we've been having! Keep going, it'll be winter soon again and what fun that will be 😂.

Well that concludes our expected arrivals by Menai Masquerade (the King of Colts 😂) now back with his mum . He has really thrown me some belters and once again I'm over the moon with how he's crossed with my girls, of course I'm totally biased but they're a good-looking bunch with gorgeous cheeky temperaments to boot and I can't wait to see how they all unfold over the summer.
This year will also see a deviation in direction but more on that later, it's been a bit of a rollercoaster from getting caught out on one, foaling one down in a storm, a tricky maiden, Trinity's malpresentation, I swear I've gone rapidly more grey these last two months! Need a chance to catch my breath, organise my thoughts and enjoy these babies first. As for the stud we are still expecting two pure mini Shetland arrivals at some point in the near future so foaling season isn't quite over yet although there is always the chance that the girls are fibbing me. Hope everyone else gets through the rest of their season successfully. There's a lot of gorgeous babies out there already, I can't wait to see the rest of everyone's arrivals!

Introducing our second foal of the year
💜Goldvalley Chimera💜 or "Cookie" to her friends. Out of Banjos Wispa (Chaps reg TGC) by Menai Masquerade (SPSS gold premium awarded, WPCS licenced Welsh section B).
Born 17/4/19 at 8.45pm.

I am totally besotted. This was the cross everyone raised their eyebrows at but I am over the moon with the result! First time mum Wispa is being an absolute dream with her and I couldn't have asked for more from her. Little Cookie is a lump of a thing with temperament to die for already. Cannot wait to see her unfold properly❤️. 🦄
