A Personal Message from Middleton Fish Bar
This isn’t an easy post to write…
After 6 incredible years of running Middleton Fish Bar, we’re now facing a very real and painful threat.
A large chain fish and chip shop is opening directly across the street from us.
Paul and I have proudly served the people of Middleton since 1998. Before we took over Middleton Fish Bar 6 years ago, it was run by the much-loved Ramplins family — and adored by locals for many, many years. This has always been Middleton’s chip shop.
A place with roots, stories, and people behind it.
We’re a small, independent, family-run business. We don’t have the power of bulk buying, slick advertising, or the ability to sell food for next to nothing just to dominate the area.
What we do have is heart, pride in our craft, and a genuine love for the people we serve. But sadly, that may no longer be enough.
We’ve already been through some of the toughest years this industry has ever seen. Prices are rising, footfall is dropping, and small businesses like ours are being pushed to the brink.
When big chains move in, they don’t just offer “cheap food” — they drain the life out of towns. They take trade, character, and community away from the independents who helped build places like Middleton.
👉 We’ve attached a photo taken from our front door. The arrow points to where the new chain fish and chip shop is potentially opening. This is how close we are — and how real this threat is.
We’re not looking for sympathy.
We’re asking for support.
• Support your local chip shop.
• Support independents before we’re all gone.
Because once we close our doors, they likely won’t reopen.
❤️ With gratitude,
Middleton Fish Bar
