Avian Influenza
While I hate to be a party pooper, we all need to be thinking about getting our flocks and their set-up Avian Influenza compliant so that they can be protected.
H5N1 is one of the most virulent forms of the virus and with a high mortality rate too. It can also be transmitted to humans. Since the very bad outbreak in the winter of 2022-23, this strain of the virus has remained on our shores, circulating amongst our wild birds and sea/water fowl populations, with devastating effect. Last year, we went into lockdown in October, so not a lot of time
It is also important to register your flock (legal requirement) so that APHA will be able to see which flocks are most at risk in any area when outbreaks happen so that they can help you.https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/register-as-a-bird-keeper
