As well as helping local pets as vet and practice owner at Vets4Pets Lisburn Longstone Anna volunteers with British Divers Marine Life Rescue to save marine wildlife.

Anna’s passion for marine mammals began at 16, when she helped a Marine Biologist raise some seal pups. Since then, she has trained twice with British Divers, to volunteer as a Marine Mammal Medic, where she responds to calls for distressed porpoises, seal pups, and more.

Anna, who opened the practice ten years ago, said, “There’s a lot of coastlines where I’m based, and I always want to be able to help and educate myself further. If you find a stranded marine mammal, please do not approach. They can carry diseases, and you may also cause more harm by trying to help. The best thing to do is to contact British Divers. If you would like to be more involved, anyone can volunteer their time.”

With the school holidays in full swing, mum Danielle set herself a challenge to plan some fun, no-spend days with her kids - and she recommends the free My Pet Pals workshop at Pets at Home.

Danielle’s been sharing her tips for the summer holidays over on Instagram (), and on day two of her challenge she visited Pets at Home Sudbury with eight-year-old Lincoln and five-year-old Hudson for one of our fun, educational workshops.

Thirteen-year-old Henry has been reunited with his owners after being missing for six years, thanks to the detective work of receptionist's pet care advisors Carly and Robyn from Vets for Pets Gillingham.

When kind members of the public brought Henry into the practice, his microchip revealed he’d been missing for years, but the contact details were out of date. Armed with just his name and the owner’s first name, Carly and Robyn called nine other practices in the area until they tracked down his family.

Owner Tillie said, “When Henners first went missing, we tried everything; we put items of ours outside with our scent, walked around the neighbourhood, posted pleas on Facebook and registered him as missing via his chip. But in the six years, there wasn't a single sighting. It was horrible when it became longer and longer since I last saw him. After a few years, I’d assumed that he must be dead. I was in total shock when I received the call! My children and I are so happy to have our cat back.”

Ten-month-old Rosie is spending her summer exploring rural Scotland in her Noble harness from Pets at Home.

So far this year, Rosie has already visited iconic Kelpies sculpture in Falkirk and enjoyed her first beach experience in Lossiemouth. And owner Caitlin has plenty more summer plans in store.

Caitlin said, “Rosie is out and about all the time. We take her new places most days, including at dog friendly shops and cafes. Over the summer, we're heading to other rural locations across Scotland so she can explore and see new places.”

Today is the final day of the Pets Foundation Blue Cross UK summer appeal, there’s still time to donate to help keep people like Gwen and her two kittens together.

Gwen is recovering from a stroke and gets help from the pet food bank for her two kittens Socks and Fluffy. She says that pet food banks have been there when they've needed it most.

Gwen said, “They’re such good company, I talk to them and Lucky will be on my lap and Socks will sit or lay by my side while I do my wordsearch. They mean a lot they really do. I can’t go to sleep if they’re not in at night. It would upset me tremendously if anything happened to them. With all the costs going up the pet food bank is a brilliant help. I don’t know what I’d do without the help.”

Ivy has made a full recovery after a terrifying fall from a fifth-floor flat, thanks to the expert care at Vets for Pets Sheffield Drakehouse and her owner, Emily.

During a recent heatwave, with temperatures soaring above 30 degrees, Emily left the door to her enclosed balcony open to cool the flat, only to realise four-year-old Ivy had squeezed through a gap in the glass. Miraculously, Ivy survived with just a dislocated jaw and began her recovery at Vets for Pets Sheffield Drakehouse, where they repositioned her jaw, taped her face to keep it stable, and fitted a feeding tube. Over the next few weeks, Ivy returned for check-ups while Emily tube-fed her every two hours to make sure she got the nutrition she needed.

Head vet Alexandra, practice owner at Vets for Pets Sheffield Drakehouse, said, “Cats are naturally inquisitive creatures, especially during the summer months, so even small gaps can be dangerous. Ivy’s case was traumatic for Emily, but she did an amazing job at home. It was a real team effort from everyone here.”

Emily said, “I can’t thank the team at Drakehouse enough. They were a constant support during Ivy’s recovery; it was such a scary time but the care we received made the whole ordeal a lot easier. Ivy is the most important thing in my life.”

Emily has since installed netting—and Ivy is back to her curious, cuddly self.

Meet 14-year-old Tilly the labrador, our Golden Pet of the Month!

Owner Suzanne, who shops at Pets at Home Yate, shared that Tilly started her 14th birthday with a gentle morning walk. Suzanne said, “Walks are a lot, lot slower and shorter than the days of old, but Tilly still loves a little plod and a good old sniff along the country lane we live on. She spent the afternoon snoozing in the garden, basking in the sunshine, which she absolutely loves. And probably the best bit—we cooked her a steak for her birthday tea! Tilly is loved as much as ever, if not more, each day by the family."

Tilly earned the title of Golden Pet of the Month after Suzanne entered our competition through an email we sent at the start of her birthday month. The team at Vets4Pets Saffron Walden have built a reputation for helping local wildlife.

One of vet nurse Ella’s most memorable rescues is a one-week-old seagull named Chips, who was found stuck down a drainpipe at a local school. With weeks of care, Chips grew stronger until one day he spread his wings and flew off.

Ella says, “Being able to look after wildlife if so rewarding. You want to give them the best chance possible, and when it goes right and they fly away you think ‘I've done something worthwhile.’ Wildlife is not meant to be hand reared, so if you find any injured the best thing to do in the first instance is contact your vet or local wildlife rescue for advice.”
