Young pup Cooper came in this morning for his first full groom. The picture on the left was from his puppy introduction a few weeks back and although he looks super cute, all the fine downy hair is his puppy fuzz and now after his full groom his adult coat is showing his gorgeous red colour ❤️🐶

🌡️ UK heatwave? Remember one simple rule: 💦

GET THEM WET → THEN TO THE VET

If you suspect your dog is suffering from heat-related illness, don't waste precious time searching for "tepid" water or waiting to see if they improve.

💧 Start cooling immediately using cold water.

🌊 Cold-water immersion is the most effective cooling method for suitable dogs.

✅ Suitable for immersion:
• Conscious dogs
• Young and otherwise healthy dogs
• Dogs that can stand or be safely supported in water
• Dogs that tolerate water without becoming distressed

⚠️ Important:
• Always keep your dog's head above the water
• Never leave your dog unattended
• Continuously monitor your dog throughout cooling

❌ Immersion may not be suitable for:
• Brachycephalic breeds (e.g. Pugs, Bulldogs, French Bulldogs)
• Unconscious or comatose dogs
• Dogs actively seizuring
• Dogs with significant respiratory compromise
• Dogs that become distressed or panic in water

🌬️ If immersion isn't suitable or practical, use evaporative cooling:
• Continuously wet the dog with cold water
• Use a hose, shower, buckets, watering can or similar
• Maximise airflow with fans, air conditioning, or open windows and doors
• Continue cooling while transporting your dog to the vet

❌ Don't wrap dogs in wet towels or blankets.
❌ Don't delay cooling while arranging transport.
❌ Don't wait to see if symptoms improve before seeking veterinary advice.
❌ Don't delay cooling while searching for "tepid" water.

Current evidence supports "Cool First, Transport Second" — rapid cooling saves lives.

🐾 Early recognition and fast action can make all the difference.
