Woody was very relaxed during his massage this week! This lovely horse showed all the signs of enjoying the treatment, with plenty of yawning throughout the session and a beautifully relaxed demeanour afterwards.

Yawning is a great indicator of the horses nervous system shifting, in this case moving into a state of relaxation! A relaxed horse will benefit more from massage and enable me to work deeper into the muscle to release tension and fatigue. It’s also great to see them enjoying it, who doesn’t like a massage!

Massaging in the sunshine!!! ☀️

This photo shows me locating the subclavius muscle, this muscle helps to support the neck and shoulders, aids forward movement and acts as a shock absorber! It’s a big muscle which does a lot, massaging this area helps to improve mobility and comfort in the forehand, whilst reducing stiffness of other muscles through the neck and shoulder!

🐴✨ 5 top tips to get the most out of your equine massage appointment;

1️⃣ Environment
Horses are often affected by the environment around them, choosing to have their massage where they feel most calm and safe, whether that be in their stable or in the field, will help encourage the horse to relax.

2️⃣ Allow time before and after
Don’t rush! Give your horse time to settle before, and relax after, the session to fully benefit.

3️⃣ Share your horse’s history
Let your therapist know about any injuries, workload changes, or behavioural quirks — it all helps tailor the treatment.

4️⃣ Observe and learn
Watch how your horse responds during the session — you’ll pick up valuable insights into their comfort and movement.

5️⃣ Follow aftercare advice
Light work, rest, or specific stretches may be recommended — sticking to this is key for long-term results.

💡 A little preparation goes a long way in keeping your horse happy, healthy, and performing at their best!

Great to be massaging some familiar faces this week! These horses have regular massage throughout the spring and summer months to help support their fitness regime!

Massage helps support your horse’s fitness by releasing fatigue built up in the muscles and aiding recovery, whilst also reducing the risk of injuries and discomfort!
