Louis the Chow Chow puppy (an absolute sweetie) represents a challenging groom for three reasons right now:
1. He will have an incredibly thick, dense adult coat, which is currently coming through;
2. He also still has a lot of his similarly dense but also wispy and fine puppy coat which behaves in a slightly different way to the adult coat; and
3. He has a penchant for marinading himself in mud in his garden at home.
Photos are after, before, and during the groom! He had multiple washes, a very protracted blow dry, a lot of brushing, and I also partially trimmed his bib and chest area to make life a bit more manageable (and less muddy) for his owners. Managing the puppy to adult coat transition is always a little tricky, and calls for quite a lot of flexibility given that every dog is different.
We've shortened the interval between Louis's grooms going forward, as well, so it should be easier for us all to keep on top of things! I'm so excited to watch him grow up (assuming he doesn't outgrow my bathtub and all of my equipment 😂).
