Nellie, getting so brave that I can more or less dry her normally with my stand dryer and blaster (on low), instead of a hand-held hairdryer!! Three cheers for slow progress!!!!

And this is Olly the Irish Wolfhound, Mac's brother and even bigger!! (Olly is actually slightly on the small side for a Wolfhound, which is ridiculous). His coat is coarse and wasn't clumped all over like Mac's, but he did have quite a bit of matting in somewhat delicate areas which needed careful and patient removal, giving him time to get used to me and trust the process. I am consistently amazed at what dogs, even nervous ones, will allow me to do to them within minutes of meeting me for the first time, and I consider their trust a privilege that it is important for me to earn.

After clipping off the worst of it, Olly had a bath, dry, brush through and nail trim, and seemed fairly calm and happy by the end, although again I think it will be a process!

This is Mac, the Scottish Deerhound, one of the largest dogs I've groomed so far! As you can see from his 'before' photo, he was overdue a groom, so on this occasion he did get a clip all over to free him from his dreadlocks. We're going to get into a routine, going forward, of regular baths, blow-dries and de-sheds, which should mean that he won't need much trimming at all - and I'm hoping that over time he will relax a little as well. He was a complete sweetheart but very much added to my growing conviction that the biggest dogs are often the biggest babies ๐Ÿ˜Š
