Personsal message:
There is something I really need to say from the heart. ❤️

As a small, independent animal boarding business, it genuinely breaks our hearts when someone drops their pet off and says things like, “I feel guilty putting my pet in prison.”

Please understand that those words hurt more than you might realise.

This isn't just a business to me. This is my lifestyle. My home. My life. 🐾

Me and my team work incredibly hard, every single day, to make sure every animal staying with us is safe, comfortable, loved, cared for and given individual attention. These aren't numbers, bookings or “units” to us. They are people's beloved family members, and we treat them as such.

A prison is a place where people are confined as punishment for crimes, detained while awaiting trial, or kept away from society for public safety.

That is absolutely not what an animal boarding business is.

Boarding isn't punishment. Your pet hasn't done anything wrong. We aren't “locking them up”. We are providing a safe, secure environment for them to stay while their families are away — with care, attention, enrichment and, most importantly, people who genuinely care about their wellbeing.

We completely understand that kennels and catteries aren't for everyone. And that's okay. ❤️

There are different types of boarding, different environments and different options, and every owner has the right to choose what feels best for them and their pet.

But if you genuinely feel that leaving your pet with us is like putting them in prison, then please, respectfully, don't book with us. 🤷🏽‍♀️

There is absolutely no shame in saying, “This type of boarding isn't right for me or my pet.”

What does hurt is choosing to use language that reduces the love, time, effort and care that we pour into this place to something so negative.

We pour our hearts into what we do. We open our home and our lives to your animals. We worry about them, celebrate their little personalities, comfort them when they're nervous and make sure they are cared for as though they were our own.

So before saying “I feel guilty putting my pet in prison,” please take a moment to think about the people standing in front of you who have dedicated their lives to caring for animals.

We are not a prison. We are a home-from-home. And we are proud of the love and care we provide. 🐶🐱❤️

If that's not what you're looking for, that's genuinely okay — there is no hard feeling. Just please choose somewhere that feels right for you, rather than putting down the people who work so hard to make this place special. 🐾

There’s nothing quite like seeing the world through the eyes of our animals — and sometimes, they have more to say than we realise. 🐾✨

If you’ve ever wondered what your animal is trying to communicate, my lovely friend Hattie offers Animal Communication sessions to help create a deeper understanding and connection between you and your beloved companion.

Whether you’re looking for insight into their feelings, behaviour, needs, or simply want to strengthen your bond, her work can offer a beautiful opportunity to listen in a different way. 💕🐶🐱

🐾 A little patience & understanding, please! 💕

To all of our wonderful clients, we just wanted to say a huge thank you for bearing with us at the moment. 🙏🐶🐱

We are right in the middle of one of our busiest periods of the year, and our days are absolutely jam-packed caring for all of your gorgeous furries! 🐾❤️

On top of the usual craziness, the extreme weather and record-breaking heatwaves have brought some extra challenges. Keeping all of our guests cool, comfortable, hydrated, happy and safe takes even more time, care and attention than usual. ☀️🥵💦

Behind the scenes, we are working incredibly hard — cleaning, feeding, walking, cuddling, playing, checking, refreshing water, keeping everyone comfortable and doing everything we can to give every single guest the care and attention they deserve. 🐕🐈💕

So, if replies are taking a little longer, messages aren't answered quite as quickly as normal, or things feel a little more hectic than usual, please bear with us. 🙏

We promise we're not ignoring anyone — we're simply very, very busy looking after your precious companions! ❤️

Thank you for your patience, kindness and continued support. It genuinely means the world to us. 🥰

Busy days, hot days, fluffy days… but always lots of love! 🐾❤️

🐾 “How far in advance should I book?” 🐾

It’s a question we’re asked a lot at Dukesmead Boarding Kennels & Cattery — and the honest answer is: as far in advance as you possibly can! 📅

We always do our very best to accommodate our lovely customers, but as a small, independent business, we have limited boarding spaces and once we’re full, we simply can’t take any more bookings.

We’re also finding that demand is no longer limited to the traditional school holiday periods. In fact, we’re often very busy from Easter right through until October, as well as around Christmas and New Year. 🐶🎄

So, if you already know your holiday dates, our advice is simple:

👉 Get your booking in early to avoid disappointment!

Of course, we’ll always do our very best to help with last-minute requests where we have availability, but we can’t guarantee we’ll be able to squeeze everyone in.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support of our small business. ❤️ We’re so lucky to have such wonderful customers — and even luckier to care for your gorgeous four-legged family members! 🐾🏡🐕🐈
