🩷🐰🐰🐰🩷
We need your help! And so do the rabbits, and it's desperate! ‼️🐰
We are trying to update the figure of 67,000 rabbits that need a rescue space each year.
We have been very shocked and saddened that almost half of the rescue / adoption / rehoming centres we have contacted have closed. This is terrible and the result of lack of financial support, emotional burnout and poor health.
There has been a rescue crisis in this country for too long, and it is only getting worse, with a shocking 84% of rescues saying they are finding things worse since covid.
Some key findings from the survey so far:
Most common reasons for surrendering rabbits are:
1. Lack of time
2. Financial problems
3. Children have lost interest
4. Change in circumstances
- It costs a rescue on average £201-400 to get a single rabbit ready for rehoming.
- Rabbits often wait up to 12 months for their new home.
We understand that times are tough for everyone at the moment and no one can predict a change in circumstances or financial problems. But check out our advice below to make sure you don’t contribute to the rescue crisis.
How can YOU help?
If you are thinking of adding rabbits to your family PLEASE ADOPT DON’T SHOP.
You can find an adoption centre close to you via saveafluff.co.uk
Please do your research and make sure you have the time, space and resources to commit to rabbits for the next 10 years.
And remember that adults are always responsible for the rabbits and not children. It should be a family commitment.
If you can’t adopt, please support your local rescue. Share their posts, donate, volunteer, look for their amazon wish list.
And remember, you can point people to our website and social channels to help them get the right advice!
