💛Let’s work together to keep your pets safe this summer...
🔥 HEATSTROKE AWARENESS
• Walk dogs early morning or late evening
• Always provide fresh water & shade
• Keep exercise gentle in warm weather
If you suspect heatstroke — act FAST:
Wet then vet 💧
• Move your pet to a cool, shaded area
• Pour cool (not icy) water over your dog
• Call us on 01858 462 839
🔥 HOT PAVEMENTS BURN PAWS
Put the back of your hand on the pavement… If you can’t hold it there for 5–7 seconds — it’s too hot for paws! Choose grass where possible and walk during cooler times
🔥 DOGS DIE IN HOT CARS
Even with windows open, temperatures rise dangerously fast. Leave pets safely at home.
🔥 WATCH OUT FOR HEAT TRAPS
• Conservatories, sheds & greenhouses can become dangerously hot
• Always check before closing doors — cats can become trapped inside
💧 HYDRATION & SHADE IS KEY (Dogs, cats & small pets like rabbits and guinea pigs)
Ensure your pet always has access to a cool, shaded space.
• Keep water topped up — indoors AND outside
• Hydration helps pets regulate temperature and stay safe
• Provide shaded areas
• Keep tanks and cages out of direct sun
• Check for hot surfaces (e.g. unshaded artificial grass and stone)
🔥 SUNBURN IS REAL (Especially light-coloured pets!)
Areas like noses, ears and bellies are most vulnerable.
• Provide shade
• Limit time in direct sunlight
• Use pet-safe sunscreen (avoid eyes and mouth)
🔥 BLUE-GREEN ALGAE WARNING
Toxic algae can be fatal, even in small amounts.
Avoid letting dogs swim or drink from:
• Ponds, lakes or slow-moving water
• Water with green scum, foam or unusual colouring
🔥 SUMMER WALK SAFETY
• Keep walks short, slow and shaded
• Bring water for you and your dog
• Avoid the hottest part of the day
🔥 BBQ & GARDEN SAFETY
• Keep pets away from hot grills
• Avoid feeding BBQ scraps
• Dispose of waste carefully
• Provide shade and fresh water
🔥 TRAVELLING WITH YOUR DOG?
• Plan cool pit stops, bring water, and never leave pets in the car
