⭐️ It's National Microchip Month! ⭐️

Meet Bernie, one of our veterinary nurse's pets, who has kindly volunteered to demonstrate just how quick and easy it is to scan for a microchip!

A microchip provides permanent identification for your pet, and can be invaluable if they ever become lost or seperated from you. But remember, a microchip is only effective if the details linked to it are kept up to date.
If you have recently moved house, changed your phone number, or transferred keepership of a pet, then now is the perfect time to check your details are correct.
If your unsure whether your pet is chipped, or would like us to check their microchip details, please call the practice and we will be happy to help.

(Bernie accepted payment for his modelling work in treats only 😅🐾)

HOT WEATHER WARNING

With temperatures expected to reach 30°C this weekend and into next week, please take extra care with your pets

Dogs can very quickly suffer from heatstroke, which can become life-threatening. Avoid walking during the hottest parts of the day (typically 11am–4pm) and opt for early morning or late evening walks instead.

Extra care is needed for:
• Brachycephalic (flat-faced) breeds such as Bulldogs, Pugs, French Bulldogs, Boxers, Shih Tzu, Chow chows
• Overweight dogs
• Elderly pets
• Puppies
• Dogs with heart or breathing problems
• Thick-coated breeds

Helpful hot weather tips:
💧 Always provide fresh water
🌳 Keep pets in shaded, cool areas
🚗 Never leave pets in a parked car — even for a few minutes
🔥 Check pavements with the back of your hand — if it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for paws
🧊 Use cooling mats, damp towels, frozen treats or paddling pools to help keep pets comfortable

Signs of heatstroke include:
❗ Excessive panting
❗ Drooling
❗ Lethargy or weakness
❗ Vomiting or collapse

If you’re concerned your pet may be suffering from heatstroke, contact us immediately on 01270 610322

Please enjoy your bank holiday weekend and keep your pets safe.

FOUND CAT - PLEASE SHARE
We have had an entire male black cat brought into the practice after being involved in a road traffic accident. He is very friendly and appears to be someone's much-loved pet.

Unfortunately, he is not microchipped.

If you think this may be your cat, please contact Market Drayton Vets on 01630655050 with a description and any identifying details.

Please share locally to help us reunite him with his owner.

✨ Making Nail Clips a Positive Experience ✨

Here's a lovely moment from the practice, this is Blue who comes in routinely for his nails to be clipped. Blue enjoys a tasty liver paste whilst having his nails clipped, and is such a good boy!

Nail trims don't have to be stressful! With patience, gentle handling, and a few well timed treats, we aim to make every visit as calm and positive as possible.

If your dog is a little unsure about nail clipping, don't worry - our team is always happy to take things slowly and work at your pet's pace. Bringing along their favourite treats can make all the difference!

Everyone say hello to little Brea, who visited us today for her first vaccination.
She was an absolute superstar and took everything in her stride.
To help her get off to the best start, she went home with one of our puppy packs full of goodies and helpful tips, created by one of our nurses.

We cant wait to see you again soon Brea! 🥰

We were truly touched to receive this beautiful card and kind message 💙
It means so much to our whole team to know that Molly’s care—and the compassion shown during such a difficult time—made even a small difference. Supporting both our patients and their families is at the heart of everything we do, and messages like this remind us why we love what we do every day.
Thank you for your thoughtful words, and for trusting us with Molly’s care. She will always be remembered fondly by all of us 🐾

Just a little note for our lovely clients over the Easter weekend:

If your pet needs urgent care while we're closed, please contact our emergency out of hours hospital as usual.

Wishing you and your furry (and not so furry) friends a happy Easter. Don't forget to keep chocolate eggs well out of reach of your pets.
