We all enjoy lots of adventures in my campervan. During a puppy socialisation class, I saw an advert for Dog first aid training, and knowing how crazy patterpoo’s are and that we could be anywhere in the country including off grid

! I thought ‘WE NEED THIS’
So far Maggie hasn’t needed first aid but there have been two incidents this year where I have been able to assist with poorly dogs. After attending the course and learning many new things I felt empowered to act with confidence in an emergency situation. I feel strongly that everyone who owns or works with dogs should be able to provide emergency care; prompt actions can save lives. So here I am passing on this vital information I have received from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, and I can’t wait to see you very soon.

An important update for EU pet travel.

Regarding owners travelling with their cats, dogs and ferrets to the EU, we have been provided with an important update from the APHA regarding EU pet travel this morning.

“From 22 April 2026, new EU rules will apply to the non-commercial movement of

dogs, cats and ferrets entering the EU from third countries such as Great Britain

(GB). Pet owners are advised to check the entry requirements with the relevant

authority in the destination country before travel.

An EU pet passport, issued to or held by a pet owner who is resident in GB, will no

longer be a valid document for travelling with pets from GB to the EU. This applies

to EU pet passports issued in an EU Member State or Northern Ireland, including

those issued before 22 April 2026. EU pet passports may only be issued to owners

whose main residence is within the European Union.

GB residents travelling to the EU with a pet dog, cat or ferret will need to obtain an

Animal Health Certificate (AHC) for travel from 22 April 2026.

There are no changes to GB entry requirements.

More detailed guidance on the changes coming into effect from 22 April 2026 will be

published on GOV.UK. “

In summary, EU pet passports previously issued are only valid if the owner’s main residence is within the EU.

The update does not clarify how “main residence” is interpreted.

For owners, that are GB residents and are travelling with their pet we would suggest travelling with an animal health certificate (AHC) to comply with this rule change.

We will endeavour to help with queries on specific cases if required but we have at this time no further information than what we have posted above.

Grass seeds might look small and harmless, but in the wrong place, they can cause a great deal of trouble. If your dog has been running in long grass, always check them for grass seeds afterwards, and remove any that you find, especially in between the toes, round their armpits and near their eyes. If you find one stuck, or a wound/swelling that looks like it could contain one, book an appointment with your vet. It’s important to remove grass seeds quickly, because their pointy shape enables them to pierce through skin, enter the body and travel around causing problems such as infections and abscesses.

🔸SYMPTOMS TO LOOK OUT FOR🔸
Grass seeds often cause problems in the ears, between toes, behind eyelids, up their nose and sometimes, under the skin and around the body.

EARS: If your dog has a grass seed in their ear, you may notice them excessively scratching it, or shaking their head.

EYES: If your dog has a grass seed stuck behind their eyelid, they are likely to develop a painful, weepy or sore eye.

PAWS: If your dog has a grass seed between their toes, they might excessively lick or nibble their paw, and overtime you might notice saliva staining and a swelling.

NOSE: If a grass seed has gone up your dog’s nose, you might notice sudden or violent sneezing as well as gagging or coughing.

ELSEWHERE: A grass seed travelling around the body is likely to cause vague symptoms such as a non-healing wound, low energy and an intermittent high temperature.
