Bonfire night is fast approaching. Hopefully you have already started getting things in place if your dog is anxious about fireworks. If not there’s still time.

Something to remember is you cannot reinforce fear by comforting your dog. By being supportive she gently consoling your dog, you won’t make their fear worse. Repeat by gently consoling your dog you WILL NOT make their fear worse.

So make that comfy den for your dog. Go comfort them in there. Snuggle up on the sofa together. Or your bed, you cannot make them feel any more fear than they are. In fact you might just help them feel safe.

Be calm and controlled yourself. Be the support your dog would like.

My FB feed is filling up with vets and rescues who have fit, healthy dogs they can’t get back home.

Why??? Aren’t they chipped I hear you cry?!!

Yes they are!! Details NOT updated!!!

Get your details updated. I know it can cost but get it done!!! You’ve done half the work, now do the rest of the job. Heart breaking to think these young dogs can’t get back home. Plus it’s firework season shortly. Loud noises can scare dogs, so have those details updated. Act on that love.

Please Please Please ensure your dogs are wearing a collar and tag and their microchip registration details are up to date....I cannot stress how important this is, especially at this time of year when they easily bolt with loud noises and they are gone.

You wouldn't believe how many dogs have disappeared "No ID tag" "Microchip details not up to date" in the past 48 hours.
Even an 8 week old puppy I've just read...bolted from the owners car when he opened the door to put it's harness on.

This identification isn't a fashion accessory, but often the only way of reuniting them back with their families. Many local vets will be closed from lunchtime today so if anyone finds your dog or cat....the only way to contact you is via a ID tag.

I lost my dog due to a firework being let off mid afternoon a couple of years ago, she was missing for an hour and a half at a motorway services, a search party of about 60 people were out searching within minutes. That was the longest 90 minutes of my life before someone called my number on her tag that they found her....many times these dogs don't make it back to their owners.

Please please 🙏 make the first thing this morning priority to ensure they have your contact details on them before you even open the door to let them into the garden for a wee.
