When I first met this gorgeous German Shepherd, he'd been labelled "reactive" and "aggressive" and his owner had completely lost confidence. Walks had become stressful, upsetting and at times dangerous.

Before coming to SLADE K9, they had been advised by another trainer to hide behind cars and trees whenever another dog appeared. Imagine trying to enjoy a walk whilst constantly looking for somewhere to hide. That isn't helping a dog learn how to cope with the world around them.

Instead, we focused on understanding what was actually happening. This wasn't an aggressive dog. This was a young dog that was overwhelmed, overstimulated and struggling to process his environment.

Fast forward to today and this team are attending socialisation classes, building confidence, strengthening their bond and learning how to navigate the world together in a much calmer way.

One thing I always tell owners is that behaviour change isn't about finding a miracle fix. It's about understanding the dog in front of you, creating clear communication, building trust and being consistent.

There will be good days and bad days. Progress isn't always linear. What matters is that both dog and owner have the tools to keep moving forward.

I am incredibly proud of how hard this owner has worked. The transformation hasn't happened because of me alone – it happened because they committed to the process and put the work in every single day.

If you've been told your dog is aggressive, untrainable, or that the answer is to spend your walks hiding behind cars and trees, please don't lose hope. Sometimes all it takes is a fresh pair of eyes and a different approach.

I’ve seen far too many dogs out struggling in this heat today. ☀️🐾

Please remember… dogs don’t sweat like we do.
That “quick walk” on hot pavement can lead to heatstroke, burned paws, collapsed airways and in some cases death.

In the UK, temperatures above 22°C can already become dangerous for some dogs — especially:

• Flat faced breeds
• Thick coated breeds
• Puppies & elderly dogs
• Overweight dogs
• Dogs with health conditions

If the pavement is too hot for the back of your hand for 7 seconds… it’s too hot for their paws.

Walk early morning or late evening. Stick to grass and shaded areas. Take water. Or skip the walk altogether and do enrichment at home.

Your dog would rather miss one walk than end up in an emergency vets.

They rely on YOU to make safe decisions for them. ❤️

This is the reality of rehabilitation.
Not every dog comes into the world knowing how to socialise appropriately. Bobby has spent a long time running on his nerves and reacting first and thinking later.

Ocean communicates clearly, fairly and without emotion. She sets boundaries and Bobby is beginning to learn that he doesn’t need to charge, snap or control every interaction.

Watch the end carefully — that avoidance and disengagement is actually progress. He’s thinking instead of reacting.
Social skills aren’t always pretty, polished or TikTok perfect… but they matter.

This is a working progress and has taken time and effort to build up to this moment .

The dinky pack hit the tram lines and headed into Manchester to meet our little mate Elvis for a play date! 🚋🐾
A massive shout out to Louie and Rosie on their very first trip on the Metrolink heading into Manchester Victoria station — and honestly… they smashed it.
New sounds, busy platforms, people everywhere, trams rattling about and the pair of them strutted through it like absolute little celebrities. 🌟

Lots of treats, cuddles, confidence building and proud moments all round as they took everything in their stride. Experiences like this are so important for helping dogs learn to navigate the world calmly and confidently… and today these two little superstars absolutely owned it. 🖤🐶

The pack took a trip to The Dog Barn!
Well… I can safely say we finally found an ACE-proof place 😂🐾
The gang absolutely loved it! Under cover so it’s spot on for the lovely Manchester rain 🌧️ and open late which is perfect for those nights when you finally finish work and still need to let the dogs blow off some steam.
Safe to say this one gets the SLADE K9 seal of approval 🐶🔥
