🐾 A DOG’S SUPERPOWER IS RIGHT UNDER ITS NOSE 👃🐶

I came across this video of a dog alerting a parent that their child with diabetes needed help.
The incredible part? The dog was upstairs.
It detected a change in the child’s scent, went to find them and alerted that something wasn’t right.
Just think about that for a second.
While we experience the world largely through our eyes, dogs experience an enormous amount of it through scent. Their noses can detect chemical changes that we simply have no awareness of.
They can be trained to recognise scent changes associated with things such as changes in blood glucose, seizures and other medical events. But their noses are capable of so much more.
They can track a person from tiny traces of scent left behind.
They can distinguish one individual from countless others.
They can detect drugs, explosives, disease, wildlife, human remains — even scents carried through the environment that are completely invisible to us.
And this is why I LOVE letting dogs use their noses in training.
When your dog stops to sniff on a walk, they're not necessarily doing nothing.
They're gathering information.
Who has been here?
How recently?
Which direction did they go?
Male or female?
Dog, human or another animal?
To us, it's a patch of grass.
To your dog, it's Google, Facebook, CCTV and the local gossip page all rolled into one. 😂
We spend so much time teaching dogs to exist in our world that sometimes we forget just how extraordinary their world actually is.
Their nose isn't just something on the end of their face.
It's their superpower. 🐕🦺👃💥
And sometimes, that superpower can quite literally save a life. ❤️
