How could anyone not melt looking at this face? 🄹🐾

This is Sushi - one of my regular Monday to Friday walkers and a chow chow with enough fluff and charm to stop people in their tracks šŸ˜‚ (even dogs who are often surprised by how fluffy she is haha)

One of the greatest privileges of this job is that over time, you don’t just walk dogs…you truly get to know them.

Their quirks.
Their habits.
Their favourite sniff spots.
Their moods.
Their little personality traits that make them uniquely them.

And the stronger that relationship becomes, the more protective you feel over them.

There’s something about caring for dogs every day - seeing their innocence, their trust, their vulnerability - that awakens a real protective instinct.

I imagine this is the closest thing to being a parent šŸ˜‚

Sushi may be independent, stubborn, opinionated (as chow chows often are šŸ˜…), but beneath all that fluff is a wonderful soul that brings so much joy and light to everyone who meets her

Meet Rex šŸ¾šŸ’™

This handsome little cocker spaniel is a new addition to the Wilson & Woof family, and over the coming weeks we’ll be spending time getting to know one another before I care for him during his family’s summer holiday.

One thing I always prioritise before pet sits is relationship building. Because caring for a dog properly isn’t just about turning up on the day and hoping for the best.

Dogs need to feel safe. They need familiarity. They need trust.

Just like in my previous work supporting children and young people, I understand that strong relationships are the foundation of feeling secure and confident.

That’s why I take the time to:

🐾 Learn each dog’s personality
🐾 Understand their quirks and routines
🐾 Build trust through positive shared experiences
🐾 Make sure they feel comfortable in my company before longer stays

By the time summer arrives, Rex won’t just know me as ā€œthe dog walkerā€ā€¦he'll know me as someone safe, familiar, and fun 🄰

Professional pet care starts long before the pet sit itself.
Welcome to the gang, Rex 🐶

Some photos say more than words ever could. 🐾 .gledhill.3

This is Rupert - one of the wonderful dogs I have the privilege of walking, and moments like this remind me exactly why I do what I do.

To many, it’s just a paw on a shoe. To me, it’s trust. It’s connection. It’s a silent reminder that this work is about so much more than exercise.

The dogs I walk aren’t just customers. They become part of my world. Every walk, every adventure, every quiet moment together builds a bond rooted in patience, consistency, understanding, and mutual respect.

Dogs know when someone truly cares. They know when they are safe. They know when they are loved.

And I never take for granted the trust they place in me when they choose to walk beside me… or place a paw on my foot like Rupert has here. 🐶

This job may look like dog walking from the outside -
but to me, it’s relationship building, companionship, and showing up every single day for these amazing animals who give so much back.

We’re a team.
Always. šŸ¤šŸ¾

There’s something about working closely with dogs every day that deepens your understanding of just how vulnerable they really are. 🐾

The more time you spend with them…The more you see how much they rely on us for guidance, safety, reassurance, and trust. And when you recognise that vulnerability -
much like you do with children, you can’t help but become fiercely protective of them.

That protective instinct is one of the most powerful parts of this work for me. Because these dogs don’t just need walking… They need someone watching over them.
Advocating for them. Keeping them safe. Understanding when they’re uncertain, overwhelmed, excited, or simply need reassurance.

It’s a responsibility I never take lightly.

And then there’s Bruno… 🄹

A Golden Retriever with the gentlest soul, the softest heart… and quite possibly the cutest fluffy ears in existence šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

He may be growing up but he’ll always be his parent's baby and I feel privileged to help care for him. ā¤ļø

One thing many people notice about professional dog walkers is that we often keep to ourselves on walks.

We may seem focused, distant, or less social than expected…but the reality is:

It isn’t rudeness - it’s responsibility.

When I’m out with dogs in my care, my attention is on them at all times.

Professional dog walking involves far more than simply ā€œtaking dogs for a stroll.ā€ It requires constant:

🐾 Risk assessment
🐾 Behaviour monitoring
🐾 Trigger awareness
🐾 Group management
🐾 Environmental scanning
🐾 Safety planning
🐾 Decision making in real time

Every dog in my care deserves my full attention and vigilance. Sometimes that means avoiding distractions.
Sometimes that means crossing roads to avoid uncontrolled dogs. Sometimes that means politely keeping interactions brief.

And importantly - not every dog benefits from social interaction with strangers, dogs, or busy environments.
Professional pet care is proactive, not reactive.

So if you see a dog walker who seems focused and keeps moving…there’s a good chance they’re not being unfriendly- they’re simply doing their job properly. 🐾

"You’re so lucky… you just play with dogs all day.ā€

Something I hear almost every day from people when they find out what I do for a living.

If only it were that simple! šŸ˜‚

One of the biggest misconceptions about this industry is that professional dog walking and pet sitting is an ā€œeasy jobā€ or an ā€œeasy way outā€ of traditional work.

The truth?

Done properly, it is anything but easy. In the last 3 years alone, I’ve had multiple people message me asking how to start their own dog walking business because they want to leave their jobs for an ā€œeasier life.ā€

But this isn’t an easier life. This is often 10–12 hour days.
This is managing the care, safety, wellbeing, behaviour, and trust of 39+ dogs and their families. This is balancing animal welfare with customer communication, scheduling, logistics, business admin, marketing, finances, insurance, emergency planning, transport, equipment maintenance… and much more.

And that’s before the first lead even goes on.

Professional pet care done to a high standard requires:

🐾 Behaviour knowledge
🐾 Risk assessment
🐾 Individual dog management
🐾 Training awareness
🐾 Emergency preparedness
🐾 Physical stamina
🐾 Emotional resilience (there are MANY Challenges)
🐾 Business acumen
🐾 Relentless consistency

It’s not ā€œjust walking dogs". It’s running a business and delivering a professional service that families trust with their beloved pets.

I don’t say this to complain...I say it because I’m proud of the standard I hold myself to. Because if you’re trusting someone with your pets, your home, and your peace of mind… you deserve someone who treats this as a profession, not a hobby.

This work is hard. But when done with care, expertise, and integrity - it’s worth every second! 🄰

A reminder for anyone who feels a bit stuck, tired, or unsure right now.

Sometimes we don’t need fixing…

we just need something steady beside us while things shift quietly in the background (German Shepherds are great at this!).

I’ve started creating these pieces as a way of bringing together dogs, emotion, and the things we don’t always say out loud.

Each one can be: šŸ• your dog (any breed, any personality) šŸ’¬ a message you need to hear or something meaningful for someone else šŸŽ

Something simple… but personal.

🐾 A Day in the Life at Wilson & Woof 🐾

From the outside, dog walking can look like fresh air, wagging tails, and freedom…
And it is all of those things.

But behind every walk, there’s a whole world most people don’t see.

Early mornings.

Careful planning.

Managing different personalities (dogs and humans šŸ˜…).

Staying present, patient, and calm no matter what the day brings.

Rain, mud, traffic, last-minute changes…

And still showing up with the same energy and care for every single dog.

This isn’t just ā€œwalking dogsā€ for me.

It’s responsibility.
It’s trust.
It’s building real relationships, with your dogs and with you.

And it’s also the little moments that make it all worth it…

🐶 The excited greetings
🌿 The quiet walks in nature
šŸ’› The bonds that grow over time

Wilson & Woof has always been about more than just a service.
It’s about kindness, adventure, wellbeing, creativity, and being fully present in what I do.

So here’s a glimpse into what a ā€œtypicalā€ day actually looks like!

(And yes… I’m usually covered in mud by the end of it šŸ˜‚)

Thanks to everyone who trusts me with their dogs, it genuinely means a lot.

Adventure day with Bruno šŸ•

Yesterday we headed out to Buxton in the Peak District… and what a day it was.

šŸš† Train
šŸš‹ Tram
🌲 Forests
🌾 Moorlands
šŸŒ§ļø Rain, hail, snow, wind (all of it!)

And through it all… Bruno absolutely loved every second.
We explored, we wandered, we stopped off in cosy cafĆ©s to warm up, enjoyed plenty of treats (for both of us šŸ˜„), and of course… lots of cuddles along the way.

Days like this are what it’s all about! Giving dogs the chance to experience something different, explore new environments, and truly enrich their lives.

🐾 I offer dog adventure days like this in the countryside

– Tailored to suit your dog
– Small groups (max 3 dogs, carefully matched)
– Focused on fun, safety, and enrichment

Because every now and then… dogs deserve a proper day out too 😚🐾

⭐A service built on commitment, resilience and passionšŸ’š

I don’t usually share this side of things… but this reel felt important.

To every single customer, supporter, and person who’s trusted me with their pet, thank you. Truly. This work only exists because of you, and I never take that for granted. 🐾

What you don’t always see is what it’s taken to keep showing up over the last 3 years running Wilson & Woof. It hasn’t been smooth, easy, or predictable - but it has been worth it.

Behind the scenes, it’s looked like:

• Fracturing my ribs twice… and breaking another in a separate incident - all while dog walking
• Shoulder injuries needing deep tissue treatment
• Pulling my back this year and still finding a way forward
• My van breaking down five times - costing thousand of pounds, plus rentals… and on some days cycling, running or Ubering just to get to your dogs
• Being mugged at knife point in 2024 and dealing with the aftermath of that
• Losing my wallet while out working
• Multiple broken phones (of course šŸ˜…)
• Health challenges - including jnfluenza A, Meningitis, and surgery for a health issue just before starting the service

And beyond work…

• Supporting close family through severe mental health struggles
• Losing my cousin Joop tragically n 2024 and raising Ā£19,000 to repatriate his body home
• Losing a dog I loved deeply - Roxy (RIP sweet girl)
• Losing our family dog Cooper
• Grieving family losses

There have been moments where it would have been easier to stop. But I haven't.

Because this isn’t just a job to me - it’s something I care deeply about. The dogs, the relationships, the trust you place in me… that means everything.

So when you book with me, recommend me, or even just engage with my posts, byou’re supporting something that’s been built with a lot of resilience, love, and determination.
Thank you for being part of it. Always. šŸ¶šŸ’›

🦜 Scarlet Macaw

This piece is a close study of a Scarlet Macaw, created using soft pastels. I’ve always been drawn to the incredible colours and textures found in nature, and birds like this are a perfect example of how vibrant and intricate the natural world can be. With soft pastels I’m able to build up layers of colour to capture the richness of the feathers and the character in the eye.

Creating nature-themed artwork is something I really enjoy specialising in – whether it’s wildlife, birds, animals, or other subjects inspired by the natural world.

I also take bespoke commissions, so if there’s a particular animal or subject from nature that you’d like captured in a piece of artwork, I’d be happy to create something unique for you.

Paintings can be produced in different sizes, with the price depending on the scale and level of detail.

If you’re interested in a custom piece, feel free to send me a message to discuss ideas.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

This piece is a close study of a horse’s eye, created using soft pastels. I’ve always been fascinated by how much expression and emotion can be captured in a single detail like this, the reflections, textures and subtle tones that bring the subject to life.

Nature and animals are a big source of inspiration for my work, and creating nature-themed art is something I love specialising in. Whether it’s wildlife, horses, pets, or other animals, I enjoy focusing on the details that reveal character and presence.

I also take bespoke commissions, so if there’s a particular animal or moment from the natural world that you’d like captured in artwork, I’d be happy to create something unique for you.

Pieces can be produced in different sizes, with the price depending on the scale and level of detail.
