Following our recent post about Pet Owner Education Sessions, Workshops and Specialist Clinics, we've been overwhelmed by the number of local professionals who have contacted us expressing an interest in collaborating with Audenshaw Pet Supplies.

We are incredibly grateful for the interest and excited about the opportunities to bring even more knowledge, support and specialist services to our customers and their pets.

As many of you know, trust, professionalism and animal welfare are extremely important to us. Because of this, any professional wishing to deliver workshops, educational sessions, clinics or services in partnership with
Animal Excellence Network in association with Audenshaw Pet Supplies will be asked to complete an application and verification process.

This may include:

✅ Relevant qualifications and certifications

✅ Professional memberships

✅ Public Liability Insurance

✅ Professional Indemnity Insurance (where applicable)

✅ References and experience

✅ Training materials and workshop content

✅ Animal welfare and safety standards

✅ DBS checks (where appropriate)

Our aim is simple: when we recommend someone, we want our customers to know they have been carefully vetted and meet the high standards we expect.

Pet Owner Education Sessions & Workshops

I'm exploring the idea of offering a range of pet owner education sessions and workshops from our clinic room and would love your feedback.

Over the years, I've been asked for advice on everything from coat care and Products and nutrition to skin health, allergies, flea prevention, puppy care, senior pet wellbeing and general day-to-day pet care.

Many of you know that I originally trained as a dog groomer. Due to a neurological condition, grooming is something I can no longer physically do as a profession, and my own dogs are looked after by a professional groomer. However, I still keep on top of routine hygiene where i can myself, i believe that regular handling, checking and caring for your pet at home is one of the best ways to spot potential problems early and strengthen the bond you have with them.

These would not be grooming courses and would not replace professional groomers, vets or other specialists. Instead, they would focus on helping owners understand their pets better and feel more confident with day-to-day care between appointments.

Potential topics could include:

🐾 Coat, skin and paw care
✨️ Bathing and Drying Correctly
🐾 Flea, tick and parasite awareness
✨️ Seasonal allergies and irritations
🐾 Ear,eye & Teeth health
✨️ Weight management and wellbeing
🐾 Puppy and senior pet care
✨️Choosing the right products & Tools
🐾 Recognising early signs that something may need attention, when you know what is considered normal

There could be a mixture of workshops, in any area, I may even team up with first Aid specialists ans other professionals
one-to-one education sessions, information packs and tailored pet care packages depending on what people would find most useful.

Not in the shop today... but definitely still working! 💻📋

Today is all about administration, compliance and making sure everything behind the scenes runs as smoothly as it does on the shop floor.

We're currently reviewing and updating:

✅ Staff handbooks
✅ Policies & procedures
✅ Application forms
✅ Student & volunteer paperwork
✅ Trainee paperwork
✅ Contracts
✅ Organised filing systems
✅ Diary reminders for reviews and updates

One thing we firmly believe is that if you're going to do something, do it properly. Don't cut corners.

Running a pet shop is about so much more than serving customers and cuddling cute pups all day 😉. Behind the scenes there's a huge amount of paperwork, record keeping and compliance, including cleaning schedules, freezer temperature logs, product traceability records, staff training documentation and much more.

Having strong systems in place helps us maintain high standards, support our team, protect our customers and ultimately provide the best possible service for you and your pets.

It's not the glamorous side of running a business, but it's one of the most important. 🐾

For those who don't know me, my name's Claire, and in 2022 I opened Audenshaw Pet Supplies.

I put everything I had into that shop. It started with bare shelves, a vision, and a determination to make it work. Failure wasn't an option because it wasn't just a business—it was my everything.

Sometimes I stop and think about how different life looks now compared to the plans I had when I was younger.

I wasn't the model student. I messed about at school, didn't do my GCSEs, and was a bit of a rebel. Life certainly didn't hand me a roadmap.

One thing I've always believed is that qualifications, job titles, backgrounds, and people's pasts don't tell you who they are. I prefer to judge people on their character, their actions, and how they treat others.

Everything I've achieved has come from hard work, sacrifice, taking risks, learning as I went, and refusing to give up when things got tough.

There have been plenty of challenges along the way, but I've always believed that where you start doesn't have to determine where you finish.

Today, I run a business I'm incredibly proud of, work alongside an amazing team, and get to do something I genuinely love every day.

I don't often stop to give myself credit, but I think my younger self would be proud of how far we've come.

If there's one thing I've learned, it's this: never let anyone tell you that your background, education, or circumstances define your future. The person you become is far more important than where you started.
